I have the pent. 4 3.4 ghz processor and i am wondering about my temps. At idle i get 47-49 C, searching the net its anywhere from 49-52 C, and then when i start my games up it will jump right up to 65C and after a few minutes it will go to 70-71. When it hits 70 it makes a "tick tick tick" noise until it goes back down below 70. Its not a beep like a fan isn't working. I've tried doing some research on temps for my processor, but i wasnt able to find anything. I'm just wondering if i should be concerned with my temp while i'm gaming. I have a side intake fan, and 2 exhaust fans out the back. I am planning on getting another intake for the front of my case.
Thanks

RE: computer help
one of the guys in my class was having his processor reach tempetures around 70C and his problem was that the CPU fan of his CPU was not put on correctly. what he did was take the CPU fan off, put some heat sink compound down on top of the CPU chip and then put the fan back on. he said that it really helped his tempeture issues. i don't know if it will help but it is something you can check out.
RE: computer help
Sounds like you need a new fan. 70c is high.
I would recommend a Thermaltake fan. Also get some Arctic silver thermal paste.
You should max out around 45c or so with the above.

RE: computer help
Can anyone think of a reason why my computer turns itself on after I turn it off (sometimes 5 mins after shutdown, or even 5 hours)?

RE: computer help
Double check the 2-pin PWR lead coming from your case, and also your power button itself. Make sure it's not sticking or something. The computer powers on when the circuit closes on the 2 PWR pins on the mobo, so I am inclined to start there. Of course you could just have a faulty power supply.

Make sure you don't have WOL (Wake-On-LAN) enabled.

RE: computer help
Yeah, WOL was enabled. I'll find out tonight if that was the problem or not (there was also Wake on PCI, but I left it enabled).

RE: computer help
I thought WOL was for if is in suspend/sleep
WOL doesn't turn a computer on does it?

RE: computer help
Yes it does. We've been looking into products at work that would turn on computers so they can receive distributions, and the majority of them use WOL.
RE: computer help
Hmm thats cool. Never had a need to use it, but it's good to know.
