I like some of Three Days Grace.

Merc there is nothing wrong with Nu-metal. In 5 years it will be old metal, and then there will be more so called nu-metal, to a younger generation. For my generation, the nu-metal, is alot more like our old metal. Does this make any sense?

Sorry, my room mate is rubbin off on me. He's hardcore into metal, and I mean HARDCORE. If it isn't metal, black metal, death metal... etc etc, it ain't good.

And today's nu-metal is nothing liked old metal, if by old metal you mean bands like Iron Maiden, Slayer, or Judas Priest. Completly different in vocals and instruments. I'm not judging your opinions, but I don't think nu-metal holds a candle to real heavy metal. I'm definetly big into fast, heavy songs, double bassing, and a solo is always big in my book. I probably focus on the guitar riffs more than anything, being the aspiring amateur guitar player I am. It's a hard to explain, but I find a huge difference in quality for nu-metal songs compared to heavy metal.

In 5 years, old metal will be bands like Lamb of God, In Flames... umm.. At the Gates has been around for awhile... well, you get the idea. In fact, nu-metal is starting to redefine itself. I think I saw Silverstein on Much awhile back, and they considered themselves nu-metal. *shrug* I figured they were some sort of punk hybrid, but there you go.

I could go on for awhile, but I'll let it go. Nu-metals not that bad... I've heard worse. Much rather nu-metal than rap or techno.

Since this turned into a music based post!

I'm not really a fan of slip but I am a huge Godsmack (their new cd comes out in a few days actually) as well as disturbed (I actually chilled backstage with them while they were on the Jager Tour in philly, got all of their Cds signed, a cute poster and a bunch of ticket stubs, seen them about a half dozen times live ... even drove 3 hours to see them once)

Merc I think godsmack and Distured are more rock based at the moment. If you're talking new metal ya gotta look at stuff like Tool and Korn and such.

At the Gates and In Flames are a genre called "Gothenburg Melodic Death metal" (From Gothenbug Sweeden) [I also recommend checking out bands called "Soil Work" and "Arch Enemy" if you're into those 2 bands] but they are a variation of metal which is ganing popularity and becoming a recongized genre ... they're not necessarily phasing into the realm of "old metal"

I kinda feel that old metal will always be bands like Pantera, Slayer, Maiden, Priest, Metallica (Kill Em all to ...And Justice for all), and Sabbath. These new bands will never be placed anywhere near a category of these bands ... but they will gain some more respect as better ones come along.

Think of it, Hardcore is pretty much viewed unamiously as totally horrid by true metal fans.... however you look at one of the top 30 (Rough number) respected metal bands and you see Children of Bodom who are becoming hardcore without a doubt.... and then just look at Metallica's last CD ... its kinda intresting to try to guess where it will be in about 20-40 years from now.

For me merc, Nu-Metal is more of party music and heavy metal is more of a kind of chill music. In the 80s and stuff (No racism intended) a large number of white teenagers were listening to Metal as a party music .... its seemingly drifted away from that in current times.

And I like techno ... alot haha .... I'll pass on the rap though, unless its Mike Jones or Paul Wall ... those guys are the shit lol

Maybe you might like these guys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKbW1THkHjA

As I Lay Dying  . They are metalcore, so it's definetly more hardcore than slipknot. They don't have a video for my favorite song Elegy, but Confined is awesome nonetheless.
i took time to listen and watch them but... yeah slipknot blows them out of the water on different levels, it depends on which songs you know.

Well when I was in high school I had real long hair, the only shirts I wore were concert T's and thought "Death Metal" was the shit. But yoiu know what, its only noise. Have you ever heard of a band called "Sore Throat"(spelling could be wrong)? They actually made a TAPE not CD with almost 100 songs. I thought it was the badest thing, but now I look back and its nothing but noise. Napalm Death, Death, Atrocity, Canibul Corpse, nothing but noise. Slayer has not been Slayer in 15 years, sinc they broke up. They are now back together for a new tour and I think a new CD. Metalica, LMAO, sold out after ....And justice for all. Iron Maiden, true masters of playing triplets. Judas Priest, all Rob Halfords vocals. You should listen to his first solo CD. Queensryche, 1 of the best concept CDs(Operation Mind Crime), its right behind the Who's "Tommy" and Pink Floyds "The Wall". Godsmack, Disturbed, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Sevendust, I think are far from Nu-metal. Nu-metal as I know it is Puddle Of Mud, LinkinPark(very good band also), Adema, Skrape, P.O.D........I could go on. I mean trult, its a kind of a joke the way the so-called criitics lable shit. Music is music. Old or new. Rock or Country. I'll tell ya what, my Rock CD collection is as big as my Country CD Collection and thats as big as my Rap collection, I am very opened minded when it comes to music. Even though I sated some music as noise, I won't lie, I still listne to it in my car on Hard Attack on Sirius and sometime still enjoy it and remeber all the pits, broken bones, bloody noses and caos.

If you like good clean giutar check out Eric Johnson. He has this kick ass song called "Cliffs of Dover.

Also check out George Lynches first solo CD. "Lynch Mob" Not a bad song on this this disc. Hes the ex-guitarist for Dokken.

Like I said before, Rob Halfords 1st solo disc was good too.

Hardline is anothergood band, this is 1 of Neil Schons side projects. He is the guitarist for Journey. Listen to this disc, if you can find it, and you would never know this guy plays in Journey. 2 totoaly different types of tunes.

You want some some wacked vocals? Check out King Diamond. This guy can shatter a glass.

Rap, is definitly 2Pac.

Old school rap. Run DMC.

Country. Check out Garth Brooks doing Hard Luck Woman by Kiss. You can find this on the Kiss Tribute. I beleive its called "Kiss My Ass". I personally think he did it better than Kiss.

OK, tie for bed!

if it sounds the same live as it does on the album i dont like it. I love improve at shows. Im a huge old rock fan. My favorite bands are ACDC, Van Halen, Led Zepplin, Def Leppard. Just to name a few. I like stuff with solos in it. i cant stand music that is just like one or two riffs in the music.

Ok Death, since your into a lot of music, if you like Econoline Crush (or used to like em) check out the lead singers new stuff. The band name is Hurst. Its not heavy (for all those discussing metal/nu-metal/etc) and it has gone more pure than the econoline crushs use of synths. Its not bad though. I heard em live and their stuff is a bit heavier live (which i liked more).

And i'm surprised you know of Adema. Siiick band. and the new Disturbed album is really good.
Any rock go'ers into Buckcherry. to me, if you like AC/DC, check out this band. Lit Up was their first and in my opinion one of their best. but i think they have a new one out which i really liked too

Crazy Bitch is a kick ass tune, and yes, I like Buckcherry. If you like Adema you might like Skrape and From Zero, 2 more kick ass bands.

I have a weird taste in music, I only like some types of bands....very picky. As for heavy, i like sevenfold, inflames, and Children of Bodom. As of lately I've been jumping into some blues like led zepplin and even some jazz. I don't like new rock that much, but i do like old rap. Anyone everheard the song 'pimpin aint easy; ;-).
