Games and Windows Vista

Post by midnightservice »

Okay fellow gamers. I have been doind some testing this weekend with Windows Vista and 2 Games so far.

1. EQ2 <Works>
2. BattleField 2142 <Works>

Ventrilo 2.3.xx Works great also

I had some issues at first but i finally found out that Vista installs Microsoft versions of ATI/NVidia drivers, but gives you full control of the card. After updating the drivers from the manufactor the games ran better than before and the netwrok throughput is better than XP.

Just some heads up.

NVidia currently has SLI support in there current beta driver. All reports show negative results. So i am hoping by the end of summer.

Furthur note i am having problems with vista and Intel 10/100/1000 nic, for some reason no matter what i tell vista it still powers down the nic and this accurs during game play. Re-Searching this currently.

got the Nic issue fixed. Vista really dislikes DHCP(letting router assign IP) after fixing this i played sunday afternoon on EQ2 for 6 hours straight till a storm came through and wiped out the cable.

Is raid 0 config really that much faster then a single drive setup?

yes it is, but there is no redundancy with it. if a drive fails the bad drive must be replaced and both drives wiped clean. the reason it is faster both drives get information but only one drive gets all information the other gets system information in portions. which makes the reaction faster as you only have to searcha single drive with exact location information instead searching and intire drive with not exact location information.
