Welp its tax time once again which means ill have some extra cash burning a hole in my pocket.. i have terrible luck so if i have extra money for too long bad things happen and i have to spend it SO!
I have an EVGA 8800 GT... its a pretty decent card.. i can pretty much keep a constant 333 fps in sof2 (which is its max).. i average between 60-80 in call of duty and thats not too shabby either.. MY QUESTION TO YOU! the GTX 260.. i like looking at it.. would it be a pretty awesome upgrade since the prices are way down? or should i maybe just look into a second 8800gt OR since i dont really play games as much as i used to.. should i just put the money toward a new TV
would the upgrade be worth 240 bucks?
Upgrade?
RE: Upgrade?
Just taking a quick browse at benchmarks my answere would probably be no. The performance difference is not great enough right now to justify paying $240 for the difference. From what I can see it looks like there may be a new generation of cards coming out soon so you may want to wait till then when previous generation vid card prices will drop like a rock. Oh and as a side note anyone who owns an NVIDIA card that is 8000 series or newer should hold onto the old card. If you want you can put it into another slot and turn it into a PhysX card, which is what I plan to do with my 8800GT once i replace it.
RE: Upgrade?
I wouldnt buy a graphics card until the Intel GPU comes out and everyone can see what that does to the market
RE: Upgrade?
I wouldnt bother getting another card. your 8800 should do and besides, your playing sof2 most of the time anyway. Stick to getting a TV while prices are down.

RE: Upgrade?
Some people cannot tell when their framerate drops from say, 60+fps to 40fps. I am not one of those people. I play with Vsync on because I hate even the smallest amount of "tearing" so I like to have a locked solid framerate of 60fps with my LCD's 60hz (60fps) and I can absolutely tell when it drops to even 50fps. I have friends that tell me it's impossible to see any difference above 30fps and I'm like "you're lucky".
I happily had a 8800GTX and for the most part, I'm at a constant 60fps, but in deep firefights with fountains of blood 'n' gibs I can notice a drop. Now I always max out everything and run at 1920x1200, so there you go.
I just picked up a GTX295 and I can tell you without hesitation that this card rocks the socks off the 8800GTX. It's SO much smoother overall and made me shit my pants right out of the gate in TF2 and CoD4. Dalaran in WoW is AMAZING comparing the two.
As far as the GTX 260 goes, compared to the 8800GT, I would agree with the others that there may not be as much difference or worth the upgrade price. I'm very anecdotal with this kind of thing and would actually need to get a feel for it rather than what's on paper.
I guess it just depends how much a high framerate matters to you. I'm a picky SOB when it comes to games and want that solid 60fps at all times with the highest graphics settings. If you are not one of those gamers, I would hold off and actually get a return on your original investment.

with certain games... sof2 in particular having a solid 333 frame rate allows you to play faster/better.... you can actually jump farther than somebody who only gets 300 strafe jumping pretty much makes the game more fun for me and is why i still play it... but ya.. i guess im gonna have to find one and see it in action im leaning more toward the tv now anyway until i see a game coming out thats worth getting something new for
