US Darkfall release july 7th

Post by roo »

On the American server: The American server will launch on July 7th. Characters from the European server can be cloned and moved without their possessions 3 months after the American launch. Certain restrictions and charges will apply, to be announced at a later date. In the meanwhile if you want to play on the American server at launch you need to buy the American Darkfall client. More information on the American server will be available in a few days.

Darkfall will launch a massive free expansion update the first week of July, something that the Darkfall team has been working on for a while now. This expansion includes major new features and major content, PvE, and PvP updates.

In the last few patches we had implemented several major optimizations making it possible to support even larger battles and sieges and more concurrent users than ever before. As a result, massive battles now run smoother than ever. We’ve seen some of the largest and the highest frequency of massive battles this past month, which has helped us find even more ways to optimize the Darkfall experience.

As a result of these optimizations we’ve also been able to keep sales open most of the time. We’re still being careful because Darkfall resubscription rates remain very high even though this is a time for exams and/or vacations. It’s still difficult to buy Darkfall but we hope that after the US servers have launched it will be easier for new players to learn about and to buy Darkfall.

To that effect, a new site is coming, along with new forums for Darkfall players only. These forums will be readable by the public and only players with active accounts will be able to post in them. The current public forums will remain active for anyone to post in, but moderation will be stronger. This because we’re getting people from other communities with the sole intention of disrupting our forums. The Darkfall community has always been a source of good feedback, constructive criticism, and inspiration for the Darkfall developers and we'll keep it that way by doing away with the non-constructive elements.

Our next major patch will be included in the Darkfall expansion the first week of July.

Thank you for reading
The Darkfall Team

Clarification: American players wanting to clone and transfer their characters do not have to buy another client. Everyone else needs to buy the American Darkfall client to play on the American server. The European rights and the American rights to Darkfall do not belong to the same company, therefore you cannot freely transfer between the two territories, as is the case with most MMORPGs. Our offer of character cloning / transfer to American players is because we had said that we would try to accommodate them should they want to start playing on the European server.

just some info about gearing up for pvp

I. What to bring

Weapons: You need to bring one two handed weapon, a one handed weapon and a shield, a bow, and a staff. If you have elemental magic up to 50 and have the AoE, do not use a fast cast staff, use a deerstick or better, otherwise if you do not have elemental magic 50 and the AoE, use a fast cast staff. Remember, the higher the rank of weapon, the more damage.

Armor: If you have rank 50 elemental magic, wear full banded or scale, but use a studded chest piece and use unburden, with this you will have very high defense and very low encumbrance, the reason you take out the chest is because it is doubled as encumbering as all the other pieces combined. If you do not have rank 50 elemental, use the best armor you have (or banded if it is not and important event), regardless of encumbrance as armor hardly effects archery and melee.

Regents and Arrows and Mounts: Always bring at least 150-200 arrows. For regs, it really depends. Assuming you do not have elemental magic, bring at least 40-50 resin, 30-40 mandrake, and 10-20 sulfur (mana to stam, health to stam, launch). If you do have elemental magic, it really does depend on what you have, I cannot judge what to bring. Always bring at least two mounts. Sometimes you just need to sacrifice a mount, no group is going to wait for you because you lost your mount during a battle, it will also save your ass a lot. Bring two, end of story.

Food and Potions: Food and potions are often not used in PvP. The players that do not use them are easy pk, food an potions are essential in PvP, they mean life and death. If you have lobster (always try to have lobster or better), bring one for every 10 minutes you will be out, lobster lasts 10 minutes so it is easy to do the math, I usually bring at least 5-7. If you do not have lobster, bring 20 of a regular food. For potions, always, always try to bring major health potions, these things mean life and death in PvP and you should always have them on hand. Try to bring 5-10 major health potions and about the same amount of major stam potions. You can live without the major stam potions and just use medium, but I will not advise it. Mana potions are not really that important.

II. What to work for when you grind

Melee: For melee, the first thing you should work up is your 2 hander, even if you plan on using a 1 hander. Bring it up to 50, this is because of a skill called whirlwind, it is one of the best skills in the game and makes kiting possible, to me it is an essential skill. After you get whirlwind with your 2 hander grind the shit out of whatever weapon you choose, whether it be 2 hander or 1 hander. I suggest 2 handers. Grind this until you get bored or reach 100 skill or mastery, melee is always needed even for ranged fighters.
Archery: Try to get archery to 100, cannot really say much more here.

Magic:
Lesser magic: Before you even think about going out to PvP, get Mana to Stamina and Stamina to Health. These spells are essential for any PvPer. In the lesser magic line, the only other spells other than those that are worth picking up are Heal Mount and Launch.

Greater Magic: When you get in to greater magic, I advise to try your best to just grind with unburden and heal other, especially unburden. These are the only useful greater magic spells, particularly just unburden, as unburden is a spell you will be using in the endgame and is one of the most important spells in the game. At 25 greater magic, pick up witchcraft and get the spell needles, it is a large very AoE and is very good to have if you do not have rank 50 elemental magic, it is worth every penny, trust me.

Elemental magic: Purchase every single school of elemental magic besides Water Magic (unless you really want gills) and buy Agility and Arrow Shield from Air Magic, Brawn from Earth Magic, and Impetus from Fire Magic. These buffs last 5 minutes plus at rank 1 and increase your stats so they are always good to use before any engagement. Also purchase the Elemental school you wish to grind on. I suggest not grinding with the rank 1 bolt skills, they suck the moment you get to rank 50 of your school, grind on your stat buff skill and whatever costs easily obtainable regents.

III. Fighting tips from the beginning of the battle to the end

Before engaging an enemy the first thing you do is use all of your buffs, Impetus, Arrow shield, Brawn, Agility, and Unburden. Keep in mind umburden does not last as long as the other buffs, as does arrow shield. Try to renew Unburden whenever you can, arrow shield is not as important to renew. Use your food, never, and I mean never fight without the nutricion buff from food.

Assuming the enemy's knows you are there, always try to begin the fight with range, especially with your rank 50+ aoes. The AoEs are very good at long range and on bunched up enemy's so use them then, the rank 75 AoEs are especially effective on bunched enemy's, if you have 4-5 people in your group with these rank 75 AoEs, you may never have to go in to a medium or close range before the enemy is dead. If you are at a medium range, pull out your bow or rank 1 elemental nuke (the bow is usually much better) and start firing on called targets, 2-3 people with a bow on one target will drop fast. If they close in with melee, you can use a kiting tactic. This is where you charge at them when they charge at you and just whirlwind with your 2 hander, keep sprinting, and turn around occasionally to fire an arrow or spell and whirlwind through him again, rinse and repeat, you must learn to switch weapons fast to use this tactic. Bad players will keep chasing you with melee, they will most certainly die. Good players will pull our their bow and start firing, if they do this or they are and actual decent player and you know it, engage them in melee and do not even think about kiting. Try to keep on one target as much as you can unless they begin to run too far. If they mount up and are low, hit them, not the mount.

It is important not to loot in the middle of a fight, it will lead to your death and slow down the group. If you do this and do not have a damn good excuse as to why you combat looted, then expect some kind of punishment. Always keep and eye on your gauges, something very important is to keep an eye on your health. If you have lost even 1/10th or your health and have 1/5th of your stamina left, use Stam to Health. Always try to keep yourself at full Hp, not almost full, full. Enemy's target whoever is the lowest hp and the more people at full the more demoralized they get and the higher chance of them running there is. Always remember this, the enemy cannot see your stamina gauge but they can see your health gague. Use mana to stam usually whenever you even have a second to do it, have a trigger finger for it. Also, your potions will take your out of any bind for one of your gagues if they are major potions, but remember they have a cool down. Do not use the major stam potion unless you are completely or have a strip of stamina left. You can lose all of your health in a second so always try to keep the cool down for the major health potions. This goes in line with another point, do not ever be afraid to run. if one of those instances comes where you have to use a major health potion, before you even do that quickly spawn your mount (make sure it is on your hot bar, both mounts, make sure you have two mounts) and use your potion. Do not run too far unless someone is chasing you. In the middle of a fight if you are able to pull away enemy's who are chasing you that is good, let them chase. As I said, do not ever be afraid to run, it is your best friend. Better run then dead. If multiple people target you, pull out your shield and just block until they get off you, try not to ever get in a situation where you are forced to run, that is probably one of the number one things you should keep in mind during PvP. Try to stay tight knit with the group as possible and you will never have to run, always know where your allies are.

Melee is tough to master, the real trick to it is learning how to land blows while making it hard for the enemy to hit you. Make sure your mouse sensitivity is high enough so that you can easily turn circles in melee combat. Try to sprint as much as possible and make as many confusing movements as you can. Keep and eye on your stamina, do not sprint too much or you will lose it all. What you want to be doing is running circles around your enemy, not direct circles, but always trying to get to his back, and hitting him. They will have a hard time hitting you if you are always on the move.

It is difficult to kill a mounted opponent, very difficult. The easiest way to kill them is to mount up yourself and hit them. If you have rank 50+ elemental magic they are easy though. If not, good luck, best thing you can do is hit them with a bow and try to dodge their blows. Most people suck on mounts.

End
Feel free to criticize, and ask any questions.

I think while this subject is here, and you give some GREAT advice even for skilled players, that I will tack on another subject:

Mounts:

In Darkfall, mounted combat and combat versus mounted opponents is an essential part of the game.

To begin, all mount attacks require use of a 1h weapon. 1 Handed sword does low damage but hits quickly, but on a mount; this is a disadvantage as landing hits is difficult. 1h Axe and Club both do equal damage, and hit slower, they are pretty much the de-facto choice for mounted combat. If you do not always carry a 1h weapon, then pick one up as your starting weapon; its worth the 1000 gold. (Starting weapons should be: 1. Staff 2. 2 handed weapon or polearm 3. 1h club or axe) Always keep 2 mounts on your hotbar, or whatever mounts you have should be on the hotbar. When pressing F to mount your character on a mount, the direction your character is looking affects posture on the mount. If you stand ON TOP of the mount and look straight down, then you your chacter will ride the mount with 1/2 his body into the mount while looking down; making it near impossible to hit the rider instead of the mount.

Now that simple provisions are out of the way, time for the tricky mounted combat. On a mount you can perform 5 different attacks:
1. Atacking while standing still does a mount kick/bite forwards, inflicting 50 damage.
2. Walking backwards does a mount kick/tailwhip backways, inflicting 50 damage.
3. Runing forward and attack does a forward slash, inflicting on average 30 damage, maybe 40 with high 1h mastery. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT EVEN THOUGH THIS ATTACK ALWAYS USES THE SAME ANIMATION, IT IS THE ONLY MOUNT ATTACK YOU CAN AIM. You can actually hit a RIDER and his MOUNT at the SAME TIME by aiming upwards and slashing. I know some EB guys thought it was a hacker when this happened to them, its a very useful tactic.
4. By pressing Q you lean to the left, and a subsequent click does a left slashing attack inflicting the same damage as the above attack.
5. By pressing E you lean to the right, and a subsequent click does a right slashing attack doing the same damage as the above attack.

When fighting on a mount vs another mount, here are some tips:
1. Back kicking is a great strategy. Mounts move at equal speeds unless jump bugging (see below), so if you run away their mount cant catch you. Let the enemy rider get behind you, stop your mount for a split second while moving backwards and perform a backwards kick. You will kick their mount for 50, and they almost never have the time to hit back before you are up and moving again. using this technique, I can kill 3 mounts with just 1 of my own.
2. Circle around them. If you run forward while turning, they will be forced to circle with you in the opposite direction to counter your movements. This reduced the fight to all Q or E sweeping, but is highly skill based and tactics 1 and 3 are generally superior.
3. Pursuit. If your mount has higher HP then the enemies, they will often run away. This is when you can really wreck them. If you get directly behind them, aim your crosshair high up and and for a forward slash. Doing so will let you lay off a chain of like 5 hits, damage both the rider and the mount; quickly killing the rider. I should note that tactic 1 is a good counter to this.
4. Dismounting. No mount fight EVER goes on completely on mounts, at some point someone dismounts or their mount dies. When chasing someone who's mount is nearly dead; dismount and fire arrows at their mount. This is a common strategy. It works especially well to dismount and shoot someone when they are crossing a river.
5. If you are running from someone who dismounts, to put an object between you and the dismounted archer, like this:
KEY:
- =Ground, as in distance between objects
0= Enemy archer
8X= You on your mount
T= Object, like a rock or tree

0
-
8X
-
-
T

Run to the tree or rock:

0
-
-
8X
T

Position yourself behind the tree and continue to run, with it blocking your shots. By time enemy archer is past the tree and able to shoot you, you will have put a lot of distance between you and him and allow you to escape.

T
-
0
-
-
-
-
8X

6 Counter to tactic #4: When someone gets off of their mount to bow you down and you are running away, it looks something like this:

KEY:
X= Enemy's mount
- =Ground, as in distance between objects
0= Enemy archer
8X= You on your mount
8 = You on foot

X
0
-
-
-
8X

Sometimes, there are no Rocks or trees to hide behind so you need to use this tactic. Let the enemy fire arrows at your mount as you run away for a bit, to put some distance between them and their mount that they dismounted from:

X
-
-
-
0
-
-
-
-
8X

When they are far from their mount, run back towards THEIR mount, to steal it.

X
-
-
-
0
-
8X

By this point, your mount will nearly be dead. This is good, you WANT your mount to die. Keep running towards their mount, and your mount will die somewhere near THEIR un-ridden mount:

X
-
8
-
-
0

Now, simply steal thier mount and run away. This leaves them with no avenue or ability to chase you, and you now have a full hp mount.

8X
-
-
-
0

Keep in mind this all goes down in like 15 seconds in a real fight. It's a great escape technique, and has saved me a lot of times.

On a final note, Jump-bug for speed! When on foot, or on a mount, if you are moving down land with a downward slope then jump. The moment you hit the ground, jump again. Repeat for the entire downward slop. This allows your mount or player to move ultra quickly.

here is some race info:

Strength: Melee damage, slight health bonus.
Vitality: Health and stamina
Dexterity: Archery damage, reduced damage taken from AoEs
Quickness: Melee and ranged attack speed, reduced damage from melee and ranged, stamina.
Intelligence: Spellpower and mana
Wisdom: Crafting stuff and mana.

Stamina = Vitality + Quickness + 200
Health = (Strength / 2) + (Vitality * 2) + 150
Mana = (Intelligence * 2) + Wisdom + 100
(Rounds down)

Alfar (skinny, about a head shorter than Humans) (Aggressive to Everyone)
Str 15/Vit 15/Dex 20/Quick 20/Int 25/Wisdom 20 = total 115
Start with 187 hp, 235 stam, 170 mana

Mahirim (tallest and have the largest hitbox) (Aligned with Orcs)
Str 20/Vit 20/Dex 20/Quick 25/Int 20/Wis 15 = total 120
Start with 200 hp, 245 stam, 155 mana

Ork (head height above humans) (Aligned with Mahirim)
Str 25/Vit 20/Dex 20/Quick 15/Int 15/Wis 15 = total 110
Start with 202 hp, 235 stam, 145 mana

Dwarf (a head shorter than Human, but very wide) (Aligned with Human/Mirdain)
Str 20/Vit 25/Dex 15/Quick 17/Int 15/Wisdom 25 = total 117
Start with 210 hp, 242 stam, 155 mana

Human (Human sized, of course) (Aligned with Dwarf/Mirdain)
Str 20/Vit 20/Dex 20/Quick 20/Int 20/Wis 20 = total 120
Start with 200 hp, 240 stam, 160 mana

Mirdain (skinny Humans) (Aligned with Dwarf/Human)
Str 17/Vit 15/Dex 25/Quick 20/Int 20/Wis 20 = total 117
Start with 188 hp, 235 stam, 160 mana

Hitbox size in order of largest to smallest: Mahirim > Orc > Dwarf > Human > Mirdain > Alfar

i plan to be a Alfar my self ,with there small hit boxes they are hard to hit , and are the best at spell casting ,int and dex are the 2 hardest states to raise up
