CCP put the finishing touches on this game with the 'Uprising' expansion/patch. It really looks like a finished product now as opposed to the compromised graphics and mechanics that existed in the open beta.
If you don't know, Dust514 is a FPS that takes place on the planets that exist within the MMO Eve Online. This bridging between console and PC gamer with two different genres is the first undertaking of its kind. It is groundbreaking when you really stop to think about it.
The relevance of the Dust player is that a few years ago CCP opened up the planets to exploitation (generating income) for the Eve players. There is a lot of money to be made on the planets and now the Dust players can come along and wreck that (or enhance it) by working with or against players in Eve Online.
I have been playing Eve off and on since 2003, and I have been playing Dust since closed beta. Dust is without a doubt the most in depth and detailed FPS I have ever seen. You have to build your mercenary (character) up from nothing by the accrual of skillpoints that you earn both by active participation and performance as well as a passive skillpoint income of 1 skillpoint per second (while playing or not playing).
This is a free to play game, and by free they mean completely free, it doesn't even cost anything to purchase it. You can download it from the playstation store.
The game only exists on the PS3. Knowing that a lot of people do not like playing FPS games with a controller CCP hard coded support into the game for the keyboard and mouse. It's how I play the game and it's just as smooth as if I were playing on the PC. Which I'm not, which is nice because it leaves my PC open to run Eve so I can do my own planetary strikes from Eve to support my Dust514 ventures.
What's Eve? Only the longest running MMO out that continues to add more players instead of losing them. They just had their 10th anniversary. CCP games IMO makes the best trailers. Here is their latest one.
