Well I picked up this game, and really enjoyed it... played it for hours on end... until it became abundantly clear that after playing FedEx delivery driver for hours and then the shocking realization that combat is one dimensional at best ...
*sigh*
another 50 bucks in the tank.
Anyone play Freespace2 or Independance war? This is what I was hoping the combat would be like... dodging, deaking, rolling, banking, intense firefights in a marvel of special effects. *NEGATIVE, SIR*
Line up your target and hold the fire key . YAY!
I wanted to like this one, I really did. It has massive appeal. But after the initial "gee-whiz, Im in space !!1!!" wears off, Its quite a tragedy to be honest with yourself and realize theres really nothing to do.
There are lots of people who love this game, and reviews are 85-90's so what the hell do I know. I just wanted to relay my thoughts because I am an honest no-BS guy. But these are my opinions as well, which are a dime a dozen.
I hope I didnt offend anyone in this post. :bday:

Beta Player...
I played the beta of E&B and I was hooked. In most MMORPGs, I have found that my strength is not as a soloist, and especially not as a fighter, so I started out as a Terran Tradesman so that I could amass as much dough as possible. Though being that if I continued to play and if this were to become a guild game, I could be the "financial backer". When the time came and the beta ended, I just couldn't deal with paying $45 for the game and another $13/month. Come on people, if you want me to pay a monthly fee, you need to make the initial software cost next to nothing....cover the cost of shipping, making the box, printing the manuals, and manufacturing the CD. This should never cost over $20.
Anyways...about the combat....alot of people were saying that Westwood has a lot of plans for changing combat, including the introduction for PvP, but that they were holding off until players had time to build up characters that could take advantage of the new system. Personally, I like the game, but the cost is too much and there are too many competitors emerging in the market to tie myself to a game that isn't delivering all the goods.
I'll be saving my dough for SW:Galaxies or ShadowBane.

Yeah, to be fair, I should try the other classes.
I just was so overwhelmingly disappointed by the 2D combat I kinda lost interest. If Westwood overhauls things I may become more interested.
Star Wars Galaxy does look nice ... also EVE.
I budget myself around a hundred a month for computer related jazz so the payment doesnt bother that much, but I haven't really bought anything new lately and am looking forward to finding something to sink my teeth into a couple nights a week, MMORPG wise. Maybe I'm just jaded with high expectations.
Basically whatever PHX decides upon as the next RPG, Im for it. Soloing is neat, but guilds are much more fun.

Next MMORPG...
Well then I'd be looking towards SW:Galaxies or ShadowBane most likely. I think there will be interest in Asheron's Call 2 and EQ2, but I think a lot of people will be looking at the first two.

Well, i betaed this game for over 1 year, 3 times i made my progen warrior to level 130+ and found myself in the same boat as XOR, the game to me just doesnt have enough content for the higher level players, i found myself flying into the red draggons camp and destroying them all as fast as they could spawn while flocks of newbies looted .If they ad PvP this would open a whole new dimention for the game and might be worth a try.
Anyone play Freespace2 or Independance war?
I have Freespace 2, AMAZING GAME. Old, misunderstood, but amazing.
I myself also beta tested E&B, I though it rocked. Takes awhile to upgrade your engines...but once they up and faster the game is alot more fun.
