Load Time
Ok I know I've been complaining about this for awhile, but I seriously want to find out if there are different ways to lower my load time. I know the best way is to get more RAM, but I just spent quite a bit of money buying SWG, so RAM will have to wait. Since some of you guys are hardware junies, do you know any tweaks or configurations I could use to lower my loading? Ive been having problems with this long before I came in SWG, but now its unbearable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yeah if your running win 98 tiem to upgrade to win 2k
if your running win xp then you need to disable everything in your msconfig startup directory, then run spybot and remove all spyware, man this will speed the hell up out of your boot time and make the system run smoother, next if your on a in home network then make sure you have a astatic ip and not a dynamic ip which causes your pc to locate a DHCP server time you boot up, hope this helps man.

With 256 RAM Merc, you're going to be using your harddrive ALOT. You cannot get blood from a rock. More RAM (1+GB) is the cheapest fix.
BUT, like midnight said, disabling programs and services helps to free up your committed memory. Check out this site for services you can disable http://www.blackviper.com

Well, I would like to suggest a few things for your load time...
1) If you're using win98 upgrade up to xp...skip 2000 cause I think 2000 sucks for games (my personal xp from upgrading from 98 back with sof1 and finding that the game ran better under 98.
2) If you can't upgrade and are running 98, there are sites that have walk-throughs on tweaking your registry and other settings so that you can gain the maximum bandwidth for your client system (via dsl, cable, etc)
3) Ram is your best bet/bang for the buck for loading issues...if ya can't afford more ram, I would suggest going into MSCONFIG and disabling everything from loading except two progs (which I can't remember what their names are right now) but they are needed for windows to function.
I am currently using a comp that I've used for the past three or so years...900mhz athlon, ti4200 vid card, 512mb ram...but, by using networking tweaks/registry tweaks/msconfig disabling I have been able to run most games without issues. Granted, my fps are alot slower then most ppls nowadays...
Good luck bro, try the msconfig disables first and foremost...
