You need to get the 2.1.4 client to connect. Unless something miraculous happens, we will never go to 2.2.x versions of Vent.

I think there may be a misunderstanding regarding the license for Ventrilo 2.2

The 2.2 server has two versions -- PUBLIC and PRO

With Pro, you have to purchace a license, but that is for public rentable servers. Not PHX, we have no use for the pro version. There aren't even taking new applicants at this time.

The public version is ready to rock free of charge and has some cool fixes like bindable mouse 4 and 5 buttons.

8 clients???

Who gives a rats behind how many people connect! This is crazy.

No, in my defense I honestly didn't know of the 8 person cap. I looked all over and I don't see a cap, but I trust that you have.

This is odd, because they have ceased licenses altogether, so what do they expect people to do?

YEAH IT'S CALLED YOUR COMPETITON.

They want you to purchase a server from a commercial provider. It's all a bunch of BS....

Hrm... Dread and TR from SWG run Vent 2.2.1 I beleive. They downgrade and come into our version here and there so talk to us when needed, especially now that our allies are falling like flies. But they said 2.2 is allot better as far as sound balancing goes. Like everyone stays the same volume all the times, people wont come in and sometimes be loud and sometimes low and things of that nature.

Down the road the SWG group will want to have 2.2.1 installed because the jedi meetings will be held over in Dread's voice most of the time most likely because they have the most jedi naturally. Would be very cool if we didnt have to upgrade every time we wanted to talk though.

They dont have the 8 player limit and I dont think they paid for it unless they have a rich leader that I dont know about. I'll ask them how setting one of those up works.... might be something we all dont know.

I'll be interested to hear what you find out, because the push from Flagship (The Vent developer) is to force everyone to go to Commercial hosting companies. They refuse to sell less than 500 licenses to a customer, and that is on a pay-per-month basis (I believe it was .50 a client, but I'm not positive).

Of course, commerical companies will provide you just what you need at a lower cost, but it is still a monthly fee. We'll probably either code our own or go to TeamSpeak if and when the time comes that Vent no longer provides us what we need. Also, you should look into it, but I'm pretty sure you can have both Vent versions installed at the same time (diff directories), but there is some trick you need to do it.

Anyways, let me know what you hear....

on the topic, is there anyway we can clear up the channels in Vent? I mean I see at least 3 channels/games I never see anyone playing/chattin' in.

Could get rid of... Halo, ComputerHelp, CounterStrike, Starcraft and UO (and maybe Shadowbane, since that group got another server port and would probably just stay there). Then just add generic sub-channels to guild communication if some group goes to play a game taken down or not in the list.

Halo, CounterStrike, and UO could probably go. Computer Help is used more than you would think, and we might be good adding a Misc channel to cover new/testing games.

The SB guys will be coming back probably June 29/30.
