So one of my computers has crapped out on me and I can't really figure out why. One day it just crashed out of nowhere and I could not boot it back up, turn the power on it would cycle power to all the peripherals then just sit there doing nothing. Did the bios reset thing were you take the little battery out and put it back in then finally got it to boot back up in safe mode. I got a cmos/gpnv error at one point but then it crashed again and heasn't given one to me since. I thought maybe it was just a power supply issue causing it to not get enough power to boot and changed it out but still nothing. :( any suggestions?? I'm guessing the mobo or processor is going out but i don't wanna jump ahead and buy a new one to find out they are fine. it runs xp and has a seagate 320 gb drive and a wd 120 gb drive two gigs of ddr2 memory and 1.6 ghz processor if that changes any possible remedies.

-Fimo-

Have you tried stripping it down to nothing but Power/Mobo/1 stick of RAM/CPU/Video?

If this allows you in the BIOS, navigate around and let it sit for a few hours and come back and see if it's still responsive in the BIOS.

If that turns out, try plugging the HD in and then go into the BIOS again and see if it's any different.

If while stripped down it doesn't allow you into the BIOS, chances are high it's the Mobo Video or CPU (Mobo or Video being more likely IMO) and RAM can die, but not very often. Try a different Video card if you can.

The very fact you got a CMOS error would make me place my chips on that, the Mobo.

Good luck!
