doom 3 crashing

it keeps crashing on me so would someone tell me how to find what all the system specs are so i can compare them to what they recommend. i think my stuff should be able to handle it but it has crashed 3 times already and im pissd. i havent even got to kill a single freakn thing yet!

Sup JRock.

Drivers are one of the top reasons games crash ... if it locks solid as a stone, it could be overheating.

Videocard - Always visit your chipset manufacturer's website (ATI, Nvidia etc...) and get the latest drivers.

Motherboard - One of the most overlooked items. Mobo drivers are usually a combination of .INF drivers, AGP and IDE drivers, these can cause instability if they are not up to date. (typically 4in1's for VIA, Intel 8XX, SiS etc ...)

Soundcard - Same thing here, hit up soundblaster.com or whatever you got.

DirectX - Make sure you got at least 9b that's on the CD of DOOM3. 9c is availible, but not critical.

Windows update - aside from SP2 for XP (if you have WinXP) - to be on the safe side, download all critical and most reccommended updates.

I'm sure I missed something, but I hope this can at least turn the flashlight on.

Also J-Rock if you have a nvidia card and the latest drivers 61.77 or something, you MUST turn off multidisplay as this makes doom3 go apeshit atm. that's the only thing I really have to add to xor's post.

well i updated a bunch of the drivers like you said and its running fairly smoothly now so thanx for the help. just as a side note... i think this game is badass. if you liked any of the other dooms or you just plain like to be on the edge of your seat as you run through and kill stiuff this game is great.

there are some pretty cool mods out for it already, one of them changes the game to a cell shading effect (think cartoon-like, ie. jet set radio future, XIII, etc) with more to come I'm sure.
