Den told me I could get tribes vengance (tribes 3 basically) free on file planet... omg this game is da bomb.
here are a few things I missed that I love that have me stoked again.
1) jump jets - flying is god
2) deployables - turrets, repair stations, inventory stations
3) vehicles - flying or on the ground, these things rock, gunner cars that take a two man team for example (one to drive and one for the gun)
4) jump jets - yes flying is cool enough to mention twice
5) mortars, lob em in!
6) three armor sizes - small medium and large
7) many MANY weapons to choose from
This is what FPS is all about... and teamwork in insane, one guy in heavy armor base defense with high explosives, a guy in medium armor to repair damaged equipment, a guy in light to chase flag grabbers and deploy turrets etc...
versitality is unbelievable. a good game for mr sharpshooter (lazer sniper is cool) or for the "meat sheild" ... support classes are paramount,
oh did I mention you get to fly?
so fly to file planet and get your beta. It is a little buggy but ... well... it is 3:30 am and I am stoked not tired... mmmm Tribes...
oh fyi, turret kills go to the guy who placed them so you get score for doing great Defensive networks (I was top of my team two times, never fired a shot, just kept defenses working)
Tribes Vengance
Perhaps I'm just severely unlucky in server-choice and team-sides, but I realize how necessary teamwork is in this game, YET if even one of those positions are not secured, the whole team collapses. I've already a setup for 'Scouty' 'Super Grunt' 'Goalie' 'Mr. Versatile' and 'Spider-Guy'.
I'm usually stuck as Mr. Versatile in CTF. The opposite team comes in as a whole bunch of Heavys with mortars and obliterates the entire inventory section instantly and charges the generator. If they do that even once, my side almost never recovers, because now that everyone is stuck with normal Grunt loadout, they don't really do much (y'know, 'cept die).
So I'm there attempting to repair the inventory, defend the generator, plant turrets and mines (because everyone else seems to think that planting in corner of a building where no one would go is good defense), and try to take out half a dozen Heavy Mortars with my pellet gun all at once.
I need some competent freakin' backup!
---
Scouty - Light Laser Rifle, Blaster, and Rocketpod with Energy Pack
Super Grunt - Medium Grenade Launcher, Spinfusor, and Burner with Shield Pack
Goalie - Heavy Burner, Mortar, and Rocket Pod with Repair pack
Mr. Versatile - Medium Grenade Launcher, Buckler and Blaster with Repair pack
Spider-Guy, Spider-Guy - Light Blaster, grenade launcher, and Grappler with Speed Pack
---
I freakin' love skiing (Yaz said skiing was in all the tribes but I sure don't remember it as an actual button to press and slide all over the place, but its been a while), I was able to break 400 in constant speed a while ago. Came down on a slope and got some great airtime on the jump. Went higher than the vehicles flight ceiling.
---
Open Beta = Players are total wankers. I set down three turrets in a triangle proximity around the flag, and place a repair station in the center (on the flag), I take out about three enemies (my turrets are repaired by the time another came by), before a friendly starts Fusing my damned turrets! What the hell? I wait for one to respawn, so I can set them down again. The guy comes right up next to me, grabs one and sets it down behind the fence (this is on Emerald map) next to the flag (blasts from the turret do not target nor go through the fence, so he just made it entirely useless).
Rabbit seems to be defunct. Somehow a player (in medium armor) was able to move so fast, no one else was able to catch up with him, He was going at least three times the speed as any of the rest of us (he won with the longest hold time and a constant speed of over 600). I had to cut across the map and cut him off. A square, equal on all sides. Me and the rabbit are at the center of one of the far sides. I go directly from one side to the other, while the rabbit heads along the combat wall. He goes almost twice the distance I do and gets there first.
I've yet to join a server with TriBall (sure, just called Ball, but I call it TriBall!). Sucks that only the cavern map has Ball, though, I'd like to see something more... regulation.
---
I kinda wish they had kept the ELF Projector, draining energy would be great for Ball, Rabbit or CTF, slow down the guy with the thingie.
Yaz and I (and anyone else who picks this up, I know PJ did) should meet in... the Doom3 or Halo channel to play this sometime.

Reiteration: I went and played some TriBall! and it is super sweet. More fun that the UT-style of ball. I was able to launch the ball all the way from my goal and make it land in the opponent's goal. With the ski-jet momentum, I threw that thing like in that one commercial with John Elway throwing the Vortex football (you could actually see the ball spiraling like a football).
I also did some Fuel. Its mostly like... that flag hoarde gametype in Tribes 2, but with teams, and the fuel is in one spot. Like a mix of King of the Hill and Double Retrieval.

i will definately be playing tribes veng. ...i remember the old days when tribes 1 came out.. online teamwork to win was unheard of....i played tribes 2 as well, but sometimes went back to the original..... i need to re-up my subscription to fileplanet... oh.. and i love the jet pack.....i remember sniping from far above the base and from out in the mountains.. and my base defense was the shit..... man those were the good ol days
Curious... It seems that while I CAN change my "spawn loadout", I cannot change the spinfusor with another gun in my spawn loadout. I was hoping to get Blaster, Buckler and Grappler when I spawn anew, but now I have Spinfusor, Buckler and Grappler. While although I kick ass with the Buckler (TRON Style wench!), I need something with more than ten yards distance (for those grenading foo's).
Hell, the buckler should get Style points... Or perhaps the Blaster, like with the old message "Some Punk was embarrased by Den's Pea Shooter!". So far it seems the only style points are gotten from Sniper Headshots and Spinfusor air-hits.
---
What else could get style points are perhaps "assists" in TriBall, passing to another player and that player shoots. As well, "Off-The-Wall" shots, bouncing it off the ground and it ends up in the goal. Same with the flag, you can equip it and throw it, sucessfully passing it to a teammate could get a "javelin throw" style point. I wonder if it'll be able to get style points for being a "Goalie", catching the ball when a enemy player shoots close enough to the net.

Den, I owe you big time for introducing me to this, did not have my finger on the pulse on this one. My favorite loadout from I and II was capper gear, Laser rifle, spin fuser, energy pack. In both previous Tribes there was such good physics that if you dropped your blaster in light armor, you were lighter and could fly farther and faster!
I am also a very competent generator defender, and turret placement (the repair modules are going to make some sick and wrong defenses if you place them right).
My weakest postition is mid field... taking out the guys zooming by, I either zoom or I defend base, but I am "ok" mid field.
I dont have my loadouts yet, but I do know that sniper on a wire will be one, use the grapple, get yourself hanging away from objects (spinfuser disks have to actually hit you, not explode on the ground next to you) and then snipity snipe.
as for skiing, in the previous games there was not "I am skiiing" button, it was all about trajectory, the l33t guys knew how to do it and everyone was ammazed... with vengance it is "skiiing for dummys" and it rocks, why walk ever again! lol...

Use the Energy Pack if you are primarially sniping (it was a necessity before, its only optional now). Wait until your energy (the very same bar you use for your jetpack) is maxed out before you shoot. Unlike Q3 or BF'42, do not lead the target AT ALL, aim where he is and shoot. A headshot at full blast may only kill a light armor at full health, but a headshot gets you style points.
Its a horrible habit of mine, regardless of my knowledge of the sniper rifle functions in Tribes, I continue to lead my target.
