I just thought I'd do this to see if anyone else feels the same. What got me going on this was the Yakee vs Twins games alst night. It pisses me off that the Yankees can buy championships. I hope the Twins whip there asses in this series. If they do, it shows what a good farm system and team work can really do. Pro sports is a bunch of bull shit. Michale Jordan, " I love basketball, that is why I play. Oh ya, and I won't play unless I make 30mill for 1 year". Now I truley love college basketball, but what kills me is these god dam highschool kids and college under classman that enter the draft early. All pro sports and there greed do is ruin these kids chance at an education. Some peole say I'm jealous cause I can't do that and make millions. Maybe theres a little jealousy, but to me, money isn't everything. As you all know I have had some real life issues recently and I learned that FAMILY MEANS EVERYTHING. As long as I have the love of my family I am happy. Don't get me wrong, having a feew mill would be nice, but it isn't everything. Now lets get back to the baseball. This whole A-Rod shit pissed me off to the point where I pretty much boycotted baseball this season. A-Rod says "I love the game and that is why I play." Well go play on the Expos, or the Blue Jays! He won't do that because they are small market teams with NO MONEY. Why not take a pay cut and do something good for the sport and play on a small market club, generate some attendance and draw some big names to the same? HELL NO! Pro sports is all about GREED. GREED, GREED GREED. Well heres my opinion, feel free to express yours.
Oh ya, and did I tell you my to favorite baseball teams? They are the Braves and anyone who beats the Yankees. GO TWINS!

That's why I feel that MLB should institute a Salary Cap. The majority of owners (especially from smaller markets) want it so that they can get A-list players at a lower cost. The fans want it because "potentially" it could keep ticket and concession prices down, so they aren't offsetting the cost of the players. A good amount of lower-level players want it because it potentially means that the minimum would get raised (a little).Dr.Death wrote: It pisses me off that the Yankees can buy championships.
Owners in large markets (or those that just have deep pockets) are against it because they like to have the advantage the pocketbook gives them. A-list (or players that feel they are one-season away from being one) don't want it because they want their payday. Look at the NFL - great parity has been the result and for the most part, has kept fans engaged all season. One reason why football has steadily been gaining on viewership/popularity in comparison to baseball.
Actually, Jordan has widely been regarded for taking much less in salary than he could have gotten, easily. In fact, when he came back for the Wizards, he earned the 10-year veteran minimum of 1.03 million. Additionally, he has never charged for autographs and such. Many people get confused with how much he made from endorsements, which frankly, if some company is stupid enough to pay someone a huge chunk of change to smile and drink from a bottle....more power to them.Dr.Death wrote:Michale Jordan, " I love basketball, that is why I play. That's why the NFL has their rule regarding the age which players can enter their draft. There are many arguments about why that is, but the point is, they have that rule which limits the number of players skipping HS or dropping out early from College. A huge offender though of your complaints is MLB. They have instituted an Amature Draft for years which allows them to have "dibs" on HS and College Players. Then what you get are idiots like the kid drafted by the Padres this year that signs some fat check and gets thrown in jail before he ever hits the field.Dr.Death wrote:Now I truley love college basketball, but what kills me is these god dam highschool kids and college under classman that enter the draft early.
Who's greed? The teams or the players? The kids who have their eyes on a fat paycheck are the ones that make the decision to leave, not the George Steinbrenner's of the world. Too many kids have daydreams of being that "star" when they should have been paying attention in Statistics class to see how unlikely it is that you'd even get a minor league/XFL/pee-wee soccer (or whatever) contract. Blame the kids, blame the parents....heck, you can even blame the NCAA. Alot of kids leave because they have bills to pay. They have to support their family. They have no time for a job because of the demands of being a student-athlete, and they cannot recieve money for endorsements or other activities. Rules revisions have come up a lot recently in the NCAA which would allow all colleges to provide student athletes with a stipend which would be standard (so there couldn't be a financial bidding war over a player) regardless of performance. 1st string All-American and Bobby the bench warmer all get the same amount. The theory is that less players would jump to the NBA/NFL/MLB if they were getting a much-smaller, but guaranteed check in college.Dr.Death wrote:All pro sports and there greed do is ruin these kids chance at an education.
Amen!Dr.Death wrote:...FAMILY MEANS EVERYTHING.
Are you telling me that if someone came to you tomorrow (and you weren't already committed to working somewhere else) and said, "I'll give you twice as much as you are getting here to do the same work for me", that you'd say "No Thanks. I'm happy here." If you say, "Yes", then more power to you. I'm not sure I could say the same. Granted, we're talking about someone who probably would have made out well no matter where he landed, but my issue goes back to the lack of a salary cap. If I'm a player, I'm going to do what's best for me, including working conditions, peers, and of course, salary. Fix the system, don't worry about the players.Dr.Death wrote:Why not take a pay cut and do something good for the sport and play on a small market club, generate some attendance and draw some big names to the same?
Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong......but not likely.
