AOS Characters

Post by zero »

I normally rarely post on this board. So bare with me while I fumble with wording. AOS does suck. OK, so we move on. We all were somewhat aware that this new version of UO would cause new difficulties. I did watch and read Stratics and the AOS site constantly and yes there were many things I wasn't prepared for. I have some advice on gameplay and on characters: (note many of these thoughts are my opinion)

1. The first item I would like to address is buying elite weapons(Runic Weapons). We all have warriors and those runic weapons before AOS were stunning, HUGE amounts of damage. I couldn't find anyone willing to sell me valorite runic weapons, but was able to put my hands on a few verite runic weapons. They still do alot of damage, but they are not the best by far now. Take your old vanq weapons and try enhancing them with valorite and you have basically the same item. Also, be careful of buying valorite weapons. These aren't runic. I was scammed for 1 million gold and my friend for my birthday traded one of his etheral mounts for one of these valorite weapons. Unfortunately, these weren't runic weapons. You can make valorite weapons by just using the ore. The new weapons that can be found on monsters I think are the best so far. And I am not talking about the cool looking neon colors that "noobie" characters run around with thinking they are awesome.
a. Spell Channeling weapons (gifts from gods for the tank mage). Allows a mage to wield a weapon while casting a spell, but increases the wielder’s spell casting time. Sounds bad but with faster casting items and precasting. This can be a lethal combo. Personally, I am remaking Applesauce into once again a swords tank mage. Precasting FS and then double hitting with katana. And since I have already found spell channeling weapons I can cast immediately that FS. No waiting to disarm. Most players will die even if you don't connect on both hits. *WARNING* I do have some friends that have 60 all resist except physical already and FS does do 20 points of damage or sometimes 10 points. But that is why I am going to still use explosion pots (and with a bracelet with Enhance Potions that explosion potion is going to do alot more damage). PHX started as a TANK MAGE guild so I therefore feel confident that many PHX Members would be good at this style of fighting.
b. OK, now to address the warriors. I have two warriors. One is exceptionally good now a classic seven way warrior. No powerscrolls at all at this time. And he can kill many other players including those ultra powerful double hitting vanq weilding AXERS. How is this possible? Well two ways really one he is a GM Poisoner, and the other is Hit Life Leech and Hit Mana Leech. Yes, for those that have played the game Diablo2 you will be aware of how important those items were. Bandages and Heal Potions are good but now there is another way to replace missing life points. Hell, there are too many ways to list here. So I will move on to the next point.
c. Mage Armor items eliminate an item’s Meditation penalty. For example, a plate tunic with the Mage Armor property will no longer reduce the effectiveness of the wearer’s use of the Meditation skill to regain mana. Since the release of AOS anyone wearing anything other then leather type armor couldn't meditate. Meaning your meditation would go up extremely slowly. But with mage armor, you can meditate just fine. I had several pieces already but tried enchancing with valorite to make it truely lethal. Resist on armor enchanced with valorite give better resist then any barbed leather suits I have seen. I personally have a set of invulnerable enhanced with valorite and I almost have max physical resist without shield. . . As well as some great energy, fire, cold, and poison resist. It isn't mage armor but you can see how these items will be especially helpful.
d. Ok, so I adressed some of the new item properties and how beneficial they are. These are just some. There are alot more.

2. Necromancer/Paladin: the two new character classes.
a. Necromancer: I have had a GM Necromancer for several days now. As many of you already know since I sent out screenshots to anyone that would take them. *laughs at myself* It isn't a hard skill to gain. I GM the skill in one day. And if you are having problems with getting the scrolls or trouble gaining in skill ICQ Me. I have almost all the scrolls you can have them for free. And I have a good guide on how to GM Necromancy. Blood Oath I find to work especially good on those double hitting twink axers. Vengeful Spirit I think is wonderful for those runners you can't hide from it and it chases you no matter how fast you are. There are many more useful spells look them up!
b. Paladin: Don't have one. But have fought them many times. And to tell the truth I haven't been able to kill one. On a warrior that is. There are two reasons for this. One, I am red. They run to guard zone. And the second reason, dammit those spells they cast hurt like mad. Paladin is good way to go if you hate reds. If anyone has a paladin let me know. I want to train against it.

3. And finally to address all the bad feelings about AOS. Do I hate it? Lord God Do I Ever! Nerfing Magic Resist!!! Eliminating Stat Loss. Oh well. I quit once as many of you know. I took a year off. Then Dnasty called me on the phone and lured me back in. With talks of veteran rewards. I regret selling my main account although I had three accounts at the time. And still have two today. So my advice to anyone that does want to quit I say good luck to you. We shall miss you. As I think I was once missed. And I would say think hard about selling your account.

Thx for listening,
Applesauce

SWG man... Ralph Kostner of UO fame runs the show, good coders (verant ... eq coders). Add to that lucas arts keeping tabs on continuity and you basically will be getting UO in space. No levels, skill gain by usage, it is the way to go.
