Logging into Ventrilo FAQ ~

Post by ZarnKano »

Feel free to add this to the Guild Resources or put a link on the main page Arch...

~ Download the file at this location:
http://www.phoenixorder.com/modules.php ... tit&lid=20

~ Open the zipped folder
~ Run the stetup file inside to install ventrilo

~ Run the application after you have installed it fully
- At the top you will see three things: User name, Server, and Binds with a blank space and an arrow pointing to the left following each space.

- Click the arrow pointing to the left next to Username
- Click new to create a new user
- Type in your name, click ok
- If you have a long name type in a shortned version of it in the Phonetic. Also do not use numbers or symbols here (Eg: If you name is L337H4X0r4u you might just want to put Leethacker in your name. This cuts down on disturbances when you enter and leave a channel. If you even want you can leave this blank, no harm done

- Click the arrow pointing to the left next to Server
- Click new to create a new server to connect to
- Type in PHX, click ok
- Under hostname/Ip address type in (Or copy in) voice2.phoenixorder.com
- Under Port type in 3784
- Leave password and Default channel blank

- On the side you see some boxes you can click... Connect (comment and chat should be grayed - you can only use those when you are connected to the server) then you see setup ... click that
- Check at the top left: Enable outgoing Voice communications, Use Push-to-talk hotkey, Use direct imput to detect Hotkey, play key clicks
- Move your mouse pointer over the box next to hotkey and press a key on your keyboard (Or button on your mouse) that you want to use to open your mic to chat. You communicate in ventrilo just as if you were on a walkie talkie system (Except multiple people can talk at the same time)

- On the Right side you see Output device, set that as your headset. If you don't have a headset set it as your speakers (Or sound card) and go buy a headset. By using your speakers you run the risk of talking when someone else is and giving the channel some major feedback. Not fun, especially if you're someone who likes to talk often.
- Click your mic for an imput device. If you are using a headset, your input and output should be the same. If you are using a analog mic select your sound card.
- Select your sound card for your mixer
- Leave your output and imput volumes at default.

Connecting up:
- Make sure you have your username and server in the boxes up top. Click connect. You will join our server.
- Double click on the channel with the name on it for the game you which to play (Or channel you wish to enter for tech support)

- When you first enter you will most likely be greeted as people will be awaiting your connection. When they talk they will either be too loud, just right or too low. Click setup on the side and adjust accoringly. If they are too loud, turn inbound down. If they are too quiet.... turn it up. Just right? leave it where it is.
- Next click down your selected hotkey and say something. Ask them how you sound volume wise. 99% of people need to make changes at this point. Hardly anyone is ever perfect. If they tell you that you are too loud. Go into setup and adjust your outbound volume down. If they say too quiet bring your outbound up.

Then talk away and welcome to PHX!!

If you experiance any problems with this feel free to contact me on AIM would be your best bet. the name I use is ZarnKano.
