DAMN YOU MID!!! The smiley was there as a way of saying "Thank God there is noone like Mid" And you have to come out with something like that.
But hey I guess in 14 more years Mid would have lost his mind (completely) and will be shoved into some tight cage or something, most probably by his son. And on that day Mid will be so proud to see his son has turned out just like him. And so it has been in the Midnight family for centuries gone by. A Midnight child passing into adulthood with the ritualistic shoving of his predecessor into a tight cage. The family gathered as witnesses to such a momentus occassion. A reading is made by Mid's son from the book of Mid. An eagle is sacrificed to the God of madness and a select grouip of Mid women make there way to the centre of an auditoirum of Mid relatives. They begin they're sacrificial dance while the Mid band strike up a chord and play to the Gods. After which Mid child is given the official shoving stick, as passed down through the ages, and his father bends down, a position that he has frequented as part of his Midnight duties. With a mighty blow Mid is in the cage and his son as pushed the door shut, sealing his and his fathers fate, a sign of unity between he of now and he of times gone by. Mid child is now the new Midnight. From the cage Midnight makes a procolomation that his son is to receive all that is Midnight. And then follows a brief encounter at the snack table. There is a variety of food, but one that should specifically entice the new Midnight...yes, it is a refried cheesestick handed out by the serving boy, Undead Mercenary (now 30 something). And all is happy in the ancient structures of the Midnight auditorium...

Wait TNS you forgot the part where Rat breaks in and chucks a fire nade with trained perfection, killing half of the people. She proceeds to swipe the refried cheesestick during the brief moment of confusion. She then sneaks through the wall using her ghost powers which Den forgot to take away as he was busy arguing about how you spell villian with TNS. As the confusion settles down, Mid relises to his horror that the cheesestick is gone and vows revenge. This is how it has been for many Rat Generations.

And so after another successful induction into adulthood in the Midnight family, PJ is left stunned, for he cannot grasp the idea of any kind of culture in Midnight's family 
Similarly, neither can anyone else. AND THAT'S WHY IT'S SUCH GENIUS.
However, one question is still left unanswered...what about Mid's induction? This things meant to take you into adulthood and Mid's still as free spirited and unruly as the day he was born.
<CHEESY FLASHBACK>
It was the time of Mid's induction (about a gazillion years ago when Mid was 21). As usual there was the sacrificing of the eagle, the dancing of the Mid women and the music from the Mid band (who must be immortal or something so they can play at every ceremony...I know it's a crap escape route in an attempt to explain it). It came to the pushing of Mid's father into the cage. But at that important moment where Mid's father presented his rear, Mid saw a pweetty butterfly and couldn't help but chase it....with a gun. Mid proceeded to chase the butterfly through all manner of terrain. He passed from state to state chasing the butterfly. Mid ended up crossing the whole of America. And then came that fateful day. He caught up with the butterfly and then followed the showdown of two foes that had for so long be in a pursuit. Midnight drew his gun (you can choose to interpret that as you wish), and let loose his full fury upon the butterfly...
But lo' and behold, the butterfly was a HAXOR and Midnight's shots just went around the butterfly. Midnight was very angry and began to shout aloud "BULLFUCKINGSHIT 'T', why the hell did you have to give the butterfly hacks?" And here I laughed at him and explained...I can do whatever the hell I want to the butterfly cause I'm the narrator you mofo. After such a long time and a lengthy ton of crap about Mid's life, and because I felt like it, Mid had forgotten all about his ceremony. And so he never passed into adulthood.
Of course, maybe the Mid adulthood ceremony just turns you into dick infatuated maniac. What do I know?
