boost your video card with www.powerstrip.com

Post by z3r07w0 »

load this program. right click the icon and configure performance. you will see 2 bars to the left. 1 is for engine clock and the other is for memory clock. Raise them at 5MHz intervals. then play a game that is usually hard on your card.Continuously raise it until you see image problems then back it down 5MHz. this will void your warranty with your video card but done correctly it will optimize your game play. it works well!

Yep, thats a cool program (was about the only saving grace for Win2000's rediculous refresh issue). Now, I use RivaTuner for my setup.

I cranked up my 6800GT to 400/1100mhz (from 350/1000) and there's no problems whatsoever (not surprising since the same cooling solution is used with both the GT and Ultra) and the highest my GPU temp has hit is around 80c.

But cheaper, punch press cards can really only spare a ~5-10% bump in MHZ without redoing the cooler.

P.S
If you can, clean your video cards fan(s) periodically, because dust and clogged sinks will cause more heat than anything. And if your card has just a heat sink, overclocking could be more dangerous.
