Freelancer
Well i downloaded the demo of Freelancer and so far, i thought this was a pretty cool game. Now ive read some posts about this game by other ppl, and they were complaining that things were too similar to other space fighter games. Well, i barely play these types of games, i liked this 1. Basically,ur a space ship pilot looking for work. I guess there really isnt a campaign to follow. Work for whoever the hell u want. Character modules were very well done i find. Now its the space combat that really surprised me. Instead of being in the cockpit, the camera is right behind ur ship. Some ppl might think that sux, but i had an easier time blowing up those foul space pirates. Controls are simple : W makes u go foward, S slows u down, u can strafe, Left mouse click moves ur ship around, Right click fires the selected weapon. I dont think i beat the full demo yet, but it was worth my afternoon to download it.

I'll plead a little ignorant here, but I know that this game is being published by MicroSoft and was developed by the guy behind Wing Commander. After that, I don't know a hell of a lot. Is this a Massively Multiplayer Game in a persistent universe, or is it a FPS-like space sim? Help me out here....

I'm a Space shooter freak. I've heard of this game back in 99, but totally forgot about it after it kind of disappeared, and now it's out! Yay!
If anyone here has played the Privateer games (1 and 2, also space shooters) or any of the Wing Commander Games (or perhaps even X-Wing Vs. Tie Fighter), this would be a change of pace. It shares with those games, but has a different style.
Think of Your everyday Novalogic Aircraft flying shooting game, now put that in space, and give it First Person Shooter Elements in a (default) Third Person Perspective. This is Freelancer, instead of having to aim your whole ship at the enemy because your guns only aim forward, your Gun Slots act as turrets and are aimed with your cursor.
Anyone who's played Indepence War (another space shooter) should know of the same type of "turret shooting free aim blam blam" fire thing.
There IS a solid story (a whole set of missions) revolving around the Main character Trent and a clan that attacked the station Freedom 7.

The Multiplayer is VERY MUCH like SoF or other games of that type. Though instead of a bunch of singular MP maps, you're put into the whole star system with a maximum of 32 players. You can travel around and take jobs with a whole group of friends or pit teams against each other in a big dogfight in the middle of space.
Hell, if there were ever a chance of this becoming a very well used MP game (which would develop many clans), I'd suggest this game to everyone who likes Space Shooters online. Maybe even make it a new division at PHX.
Oh, and: Hmâ„¢.
