Just to prove he is a genius...

Post by I.D.O. »

Lucas announced last night that he will be remastering and
re-releasing the Star Wars saga in 3-D using the Texas Instruments
technology that can convert 2-D movies into 3-D. They are expected to
start showing up for the 30th anniversary of Star Wars in 2007.

Man, he is my idol........

Lucas isn't a genius, Jim Davis is a genius (not really).

He (Davis) says right to your face that he hasn't tried anything new for Garfield in years and has been rehashing the same stuff for just as long, and he still gets paid a buncha-lotta-money for all of the magazines that haven't taken that fat stupid cat who is inferior to Heathcliff out of syndication.

Lucas on the other hand says it's new and remastered (again) and will be even more kickass, but he knows that he can make something a thousand different ways and the many cultists that follow the way of the Consumer Jedi will buy each and every one. That's common.

Budget for new version of old Star Wars = Few hundred thousand or so.
Budget for next Garfield comic = >Copy>Paste>Print.

Original VHS fo' life, dawg. Or something.

*Plays more Morrowind.*

Yes, but go compare how much Jim Davis makes for rehashing the same crap every day vs. how much Lucas makes for 9 months of work (most by other people) and then sitting on his ass for a decade.

I think you'll find it to be Billions vs Millions

When you scale the difference in money to the things they do...

Davis barely does anything but write about nine lines of dialogue (maximum) and drag and drop the same five characters he's been using forever. Quote being he spends "no more than twelve hours" doing Garfield for that week, then spends another thirty to fourty hours a week going to places where people will give him money. No need for thought or change since 1989.

Lucas on the other hand is directing/supervising/sorting/creating/thinking things for LucasArts/Films, dealing with books/movies/games/merchandise. Lucas does a whole lot more for a whole lot more, but that whole lot more goes right back into making a whole lot more.

Davis does far less for more than enough.

---

I wonder what this 3D version will be like. A low-rez Han Solo with blocky hands. Darth Vader's cape clipping into his model. Space battles with a short range LOD...
