tv/video help
Ok.... so here's the problem- my video card has an s-video output.... the tv i have is a little older and it doesn't have an s-video input. i went looking and some dude at futureshop told me i couldn't connect them.... - thing is he wasn't entirely convincing that he actually knew. anyone know if making a connection is possible between the s-video and the ... whats it called?- the yellow video input thingy on my tv?
RE: tv/video help
Places like Best Buy also sell A/V switchers that have converters in them as well. The start around $20us on up...

You could always pickup a cheap VCR with SVHS and use it as a converter to your TV, FYI.

Not really wrong at all. If you do any kind of regular TV viewing, then a 5-8 year life span is normal. Plus the fact that he'll tack on all the computer time. From all the information that I've read, Sound and Vision Mag and http://www.soundstagenetwork.com/, plasma just isn't there yet. Yeah, the picture is really good, it's slim, but that's about it. Blacks still aren't there and 5-8 year life span. Oh, btw, my parents still have a Toshiba 9" color TV that they bought brand new when I was born, 29 years ago, that still looks great, color, brightness, contrast wise, and works fine. You will not see a plasma do that.
Now if all you're going to do is watch the occasional movie on it, a true home theater type set up, then yeah, it'll last a long time. But I have yet to find the person that dosen't want to show that baby off and uses it like a normal TV. Personally, my TV is on from about 9 in the morning till around 1am, so 16 hours a day. That doesn't count weekends and movie viewing which pushes it up even more. Over a year, with standard viewing, that's about 5840 hours, so life span of about 10 years, give or take? $15k for ten years? Not even counting the continuing upgrades, like 1080p now and whatever else they push on us, that's not a wise move imho.
Now would that stop me from selling a $15k plasma, like in your line of business? Heck no. I still gotta eat and Thowarr needs a new pair of shoes
