PARIAH and F.E.A.R.

Post by DenKirson »

Currently on Fileplanet headlines are the Pariah Multiplayer Demo and a patch for the F.E.A.R. Multiplayer beta. These are the other two much-spoken games that may overtake Battlefield 2 as our next designated FPS of choice (doubtful though).

I'm currently downloading the Pariah Multiplayer Demo, and FEAR's beta keys are emptied out. For a short reprieve from COD and/or whatever MMOG, we should pick the Pariah demo up and try playing it together for a feel of... something.

Positive impressions of Pariah so far are that it takes a considerable change in style to its Unreal Tourney counterparts, (slightly) less hectic gameplay, some form of upgrade system for weapons, and useful vehicles that aren't penultimate tools of death with more expansive maps mixing indoor and outdoor environments.

Midnight, SniperWolf and Den were playing for hours one night, settled with our upgraded Sniper, Plasma and Bulldog (respectively). As a game, it is particularly lame, an Unreal with far stiffer controls, but with a better pace. The CTF map was somewhat bland while the FrontLine map was a game of advantage (once a team gets ahead, it's hard to push them back). Unfortunately many players have already adopted the "I can't aim" weapon setup of Rocket/Grenade Launcher.

There is no team dynamic, as one guy has the ability to charge through with a rifle and kill a hundred guys by chance (I was able to take out the entire enemy team on CTF with a Bulldog/Grenade. Maps are small enough for one guy to cover and get to all necessary areas. Everybody takes the role of "Killingyouguy", no matter what they use, they can use it in all situations (I've already gotten good at countersniping with the Bulldog).

I'm pretty sure the three of us had surmised that this would not be a game popular to us.

ah...alright...I also used the nade launcher/bulldog combo as when I had them all upgraded they were a pretty deadly combo...most servers I played on i had a score of 25-30 while others only had like 8-10. The game feels like it belongs on a console, which it probably does.
