BattleField 2 Settings

Post by midnightservice »

i found out how to bypass the starting movies by pressing the escape key all you have to do is edit this file located here

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 Demo\mods\bf2\init.con (use notepad to open it up with)

and then change the file from this

rem ** gameLogic hasn't been initialized yet **

rem *** These should be noops in server & editor
bf2Engine.playMovie Movies\EA.bik 1
bf2Engine.playMovie Movies\dice.bik 1
bf2Engine.playMovie Movies\nvidia_logo.bik 1
bf2Engine.playMovie Movies\demo_demolegaltext.bik 1
bf2Engine.playMovie Movies\demo_bf2legal.bik 1
bf2Engine.playMovie Movies\demo_locknload.bik 1
bf2Engine.playMovie Movies\demo_bf2release.bik 1

to this (note the 1's changed to 0's)

rem ** gameLogic hasn't been initialized yet **

rem *** These should be noops in server & editor
bf2Engine.playMovie Movies\EA.bik 0
bf2Engine.playMovie Movies\dice.bik 0
bf2Engine.playMovie Movies\nvidia_logo.bik 0
bf2Engine.playMovie Movies\demo_demolegaltext.bik 0
bf2Engine.playMovie Movies\demo_bf2legal.bik 0
bf2Engine.playMovie Movies\demo_locknload.bik 0
bf2Engine.playMovie Movies\demo_bf2release.bik 0

Wow, way to jump the gun and ruin the demo for everybody! Hehe jk. Still trying to get a hang of the controls and all the icons on the radar. Some of my keys dont seem to work, or the controls that I customize go back to default for no apparent reason.

And yes, I am horrible at flying. Helicopters arent too bad, but planes are way too hard. Still testing out the different kits, but I think I like medic the best. Reminds me of the good ol' Enemy Territory days.

Damn. I haven't been able to play the game, or any other. When I updated to the latest ATI drivers that came out June 9, my 9600 card was no longer recognized. I reinstalled and am using the previous set of drivers, but still Guild Wars claims it could not initalize 3D and COD cannot load OpenGL.

I've tried a number of different drivers and DirectX to fix this but nothing has worked so far. It may be a few days before I can get this working again unless one of you guys know a surefire fix.

i would one start off by uninstlling your current drivers. then running a registery cleaner program to clean that jumble of crap in there. then i would get the older version of the drivers (5.1) and wait for the new drivers that EA says are coming out in a day or so (5.7) to fix this nice little ATI problem.

This si the reason i dislike ATI cards. Every high end game that comes out there is always a problem with the ATI catalyst drivers and you ahve to wait a day or 2 before there fix is out for it. The next thing it only hits certain machines not all. meaning the ati catalyst drivers are designed according to the developers machine and not a universal coding convention covering every machine possible.

My thoughts only.

try doing a search for catalyst cleaner (not sure of spelling) on ati's website....it will delete all ati driver related files, including the registry entries...and then try re-running the latest driver again.

I have never had any major issues with my drivers on my system. As for ATI releasing the 5.7's not likely...the driver revision numbers follow the months so 5.7 = 05/07, they will likely release an updated driver release if it is a major problem...but running catalyst cleaner and re-installing the 5.6's should fix you up.

With further probing, the problem runs deeper than Catalyst and is not related to ATI. My box recognizes the card and the drivers, but my use of some cleaning tool that has as much validity as a crack dealer selling cough syrup has caused necessary files to vanish.

DirectX and OpenGL no longer respond, even after stripping them out and reinstalling them (DX was a friggin bitch to take out just to be allowed to put back in). While DirectX in dxdiag claims that everything is fine and in working order and I see no problem with oGL, the games (UO can't find openGL and Guild Wars gives a vague mention to 3D hardware and DirectX) still don't work.

After trying every trick this side of UltraVNC for eight hours to no avail, my brother and I will probably just end up reformatting tonight to fix this, among other issues (such as some processes like Norton Antivirus suddenly taking up 300MB commit charge since last week). I may get back into gear tonight or tomorrow night (tomorrow once I played BF2demo for half a day to figure out and catch up with yous' all).

The only problem I've had with my 9600 (as opposed to my old GeForce2) was with one of the Cats when Call of Duty would lock up moments after starting it, then fixed in the next driver release.

lol :)

You wouldn't believe some of the hacks in those drivers.. I didn't realize the extent but if you sit down and listen to the guy here at work (worked on the ATI driver team for 7 years previously) you would realize why new games have such horrid issues compared to the other manufacturers.

I must say that I really like what EA has done in getting rid of non-shader cards as it didn't look like it was going to start happening this soon. Somebody had to finally cut support for the FFP and SM1.1/1.3 or PC games would start disappearing and have the last remaining bits eaten up by the console market. Having to code for the FFP.. hell having to code for anything under shader model 2.0 just plain sucks because it takes more time and it doesn't look half as good.

The only reason the 8500 is supported is because ATI is smart in building hardware and instead of using 96 constant registers (the minimum for SM1.1/1.4) they used 256 constant registers which puts it in the same league as an SM2.0 card just without the newer shader model instructions obviously. The Geforce3/4 got the chopping block due to only implementing the base requirement.
I have no sig.
