Windows XP Pro or Home?

Post by CoolerKing »

For a small office situation, does anyone know the differences between these two programs? Thanks! XP Professional and Home version I should say.

the main difference between the 2 as i know it is that pro has some more advanced networking abilities. so unless you can get some killer deal ie XP pro for 12.99 from your school, i would just go home edition as it is alot cheaper

XP Home you are stuck with simple file sharing (horrible - don't ask).

XP Pro also has :

Remote Desktop Service
Multiprocessor support
Internet Information Services (IIS)

If you goto something like newegg.com, you can get XP Pro for only a nominal amount more over XP Home. ($146 vs $86 US) And NEVER buy a retail copy of XP, get the OEM version for almost half the cost!

In my opinion XP Home has always blown. It has a horrible network sharing scheme that you cannot turn off and you have no control.

But if networking is not going to be in the picture, it really doesn't matter. save the $60 :D

Meh, I saved a lot of cash not buying Professional, and so far, I've had zero problems with Home.

To me, if you don't want the extra networking features, just save some dough and get Home.

i agree with Undead Merc... if you dont need the options then go with home... i havent had a problem with home edition... but im using this from work and dont know what the hell was not allowed to be implemented.....

i for one am not the guy who will go against Xor and his vast knowledge of this subject, nor his awesome networking and web stuff... he is "the shit" when it comes to that........

i am "the shit" that is anything Ultra... heh heh...
