RE: Security question.
I personally use the firewall on my router and Norton AntiVirus for virus scanning. I hear AVG is pretty good.....
RE: Security question.
For me, Linksys router for endpoint, Zone Alarm and Avast! for desktop.

I second UM's statement about not going w/ D-Link. Mine was a pain in the ass because it would drop connection randomly, as well as reboot periodically. Their support sucked as far as addressing the stability problem. They actually denied there was an issue, then came out with a fix a month later. Oh....and the fix made it better, but didn't completely resolve the rebooting issue.
Linksys is my personal recommendation. WRT54G....

Arch hit the nail on the head. I bought a D-Link and it would drop the connection randomly no matter what firmware version I used.
I even set it up in a very basic no frills environment using it only as a switch between 3 computers and it still would ad hoc freeze up. To make a long story short, my D-Link is now scattered across a landfill where it belongs, bringing new meaning to the coined D-Stink.
I also have the Linksys WRT54G, and I could not be happier.
Merc, you should "accidentally" step on your D-Link if nothing else but to hear the satisfying crunch of your boondoggle router.

strange.... i've had the wrt54g for a while now and it's a bit of a pain in the ass.
got version 5 and the firmware that comes with it is a steaming pile of horsemess. since updating that it has been operational but drops connection more than my previous router. (previous one was the cheapest of cheap piece of crap- a netgear thing, but never dropped connection)
