Well since my nice thread has been hijacked by the oldest gripe in fps' I will see what I can do about taking it back.

First tho you ask the question why do people cheat? Well no one really likes to lose, you may say you are ok with it and you may claim it doesnt matter to you, but I am willing to bet you feel a whole hell of alot better when you win. There are basically two ways to look at these games. First way is pretty much just thinking this is a game and its fun to compete try to learn from your mistakes and try to outthink your enemies. Hell its the only reason to play against other people. No one likes playing against a computer opponent on stupid hard level that knows where you are at all times and never misses. This leads to the second way to look at it. This is a world where what you do has pretty much zero repercussions against you. You can lie, cheat, whine, bitch, or kill you own teammates and there is nothing they can do to you in the real world. Banning is lame as there are lots of servers out there where they can go and still play lame. Now for some people this is fun and since cheating isnt any more than doing some research on what works and installing that software they figure why not? Do you think these people really care if you have a hate for L33TSn1p3r once you find out he is a confirmed cheater? Hell no he loves the fact that he found another way to piss people off and ruin their games. Face it the world is full of pricks.

On to planetside, now the beauty of this game is they do in fact have total control of what happens server side and can force people to patch to fix problems. I will say right now tho that cheating will truely never end. Every piece of data about the game has to be sent back to the server and for those able its not that hard to hijack that data and if capable change it to whatever you see fit. For example you could have your client always report that you have 1 hp left regardless of how much damage you have taken and pretty much become unkillable. This task would be impressive to pull off and probably quickly found out by the planetside folks and fixed. This sort of thing will be much harder for the average shitwad to use. More likely you will see things like radar hacks that show you where everything is. Cloaked guys or vehicles along with those not moving or walking. We shall see. I guess my point is as long as you never can be punished in RL for the shit you pull online it will never end.

Now about the game. This thing is pretty impressive. They do have some issues with the sides not being totally balanced, but that was expected. They are working on it and hopefully will get it right. I think the best part about the thing is that you will only be able to get 20 certificate points total. With that you can use about 1/3 to 1/2 or so of all the available skills. They are still working on this. What this does mean is that you can start up a second guy and persue a totally different game. I can tell you being medium or light armor infantry is totally different from flying reavers and being air support. You both have to work together towards the same end, but the way you play are totally different. On top of those two you can go with the armor. Maxes or tanks are the big boys. They are hard to kill and its hard to live if they get a bead on ya. They end up kicking the crap out of each other and the infantry and the aircraft end up taking out the survivors. If that isnt your cup of tea then you can go with the support classes. Medics, engineers, snipers, drivers, or hackers. All are needed and all are useful and get exp for doing what they do, but they also get a cut of the groups exp. Say you are a medic/engineer and thats pretty much all you are. You will be the friend of pretty much any max or heavy inf guy out there. Best part is the longer you keep them alive the more folks they can kill. The more they kill the more easy exp you gain to get the other certs you want, like galaxy pilot. Now you can get your same squad of folks, but with the galaxy you can fly pretty much anywhere and drop a squad and a half along with a vehicle (usually an AMS) behind enemy lines. This way base capping is much easier, as surprise is a great great thing in this world. The variety of gameplay is pretty damn amazing in a world that looks pretty damn good. Its a different game each time out and you can do whatever you want. Lets say you want to defend something, boom respawn in a base under attack and start fighting. Hook up with a squad and go take a base either on the front lines or way in the back. Hell you get tired of one type of island like the desert island just move over to the jungle one and the game changes again. You get tired of killing one team move over and fight the third and the game changes again as tactics vs one side doesnt always work against the different weapon of the other side.

My point is simply this. There are tons of things to do in this game and once you find your niche you can futher scale it down to what you enjoy. That may be sniping from the roof of bases being attacked or driving the big ass troup transport bus. If you for some reason get bored just change it up. Hop in a reaver or grab some anti vehicle weaponry and go hunting. Hop on the 4 wheeler and go explore the land. The possibilities are huge and the fights can get intense as 50 or so folks trying to take a base defended by 20 with more showing up because its a hot zone is fun. On top of that you get another small sniper squad from the third side move in and start picking off both sides and it makes for some insane combat. You can watch tanks fight it out and aircraft chasing each other around all the while keeping an eye our for that stealthing bastard moving into your base. You can fight outside where the guy who can control his fire and shoot bursts at range wins to the innerbase crazy hall to hall combat where surprise wins almost every time. This game will well be worth having to shell out a bit of coin for. It would be like paying the guys who run your favorite server just so you know it will be up and updated as much as possible. Not to mention all your friends will be back to the same server as you and it wont get full. You get an outfit going and its pretty much endless combat with guys you know and trust not to go jump on your grenade just so you get the grief points.

Well I am rambling now, but thinking of getting back in there and knocking the crap out of the 5 yr olds on the terran side or the 6 yr olds on the NC side makes me wish I wasnt on the road. This game rocks and I hope to see PHX take up the call to arms once it goes live.

I am loving it IS. great post.

In reguards to your "hack" options you have to realize that they send data to you more than you send to them. You may make YOUR client look like you have 1 hp but the server knows better, so you will die anyway. They control the datastream and will detect people altering the stream for hacks (many FPS hackers will have many accounts banned before they realize this).... yeah there will be exploits, but the beauty of that is they get fixed :)

Sorry for stealing your thread fyi, I plan on buying this as soon as it comes out... any eta on that?

Between this and SWG I may fade out of the SoF2 arena, time will tell... I like persistant worlds though.

What is respawn like when you die? what kind of res effects are there, how long til respawn, where do you respawn, how do you change respawn location.... do tell do tell.

I thought I said earlier in the thread, got the release date here as the 25th of this month, might be a few delays though.

Talk to you all when I get back from France. I'm off.
Time stops for no-one. Why should I?

I think they have pushed the release date back to May 19th, at least that's what it says at PlanetSide.com if you try to pre-order.

You have a choice. You can either lay there and let the team doc revive you or you can release. When you release you are given a few choices depending on where you are. The closest AMS, the closest tower under your control, or the last base you saved your imprint to the matrix. If there is more than one AMS in the area the last one you visited will show up as a place to return to. Respawn is about 5 seconds to get to choice and another 15 or so to get back in action. There are no effects but you come back with the standard armor the standard pistol and the suppresser along with a few rounds. It is pretty fast paced and trying to take a tower is crazy hard when they are pouring out of it. You rack up the grief points in the tower fights if you have any spam type weapons, IE grens or rockets. One thing I have noticed right now is that you need a diverse squad and good leadership. A skilled squad can easily take on 4 times the number of non coordinated enemies. I am guessing this may change in release as numbers will play a huge roll in taking over stuff also.
