After almost a full year without updates this site has finally been updated again. Good info for those who are interested in MMO subscription numbers.
I think the industry needs more sci-fi/other type mmo's though...92% of mmo's are fantasy based wtf?

RE: MMOGChart.com update
I always liked this site..... good info.
RE: MMOGChart.com update
wow is 50% hehe and of the rest of the games out there, i bet lineage and lineage2 are 80% asian players
my first mmorpg was earth and beyond and as a space flying shoot em up kinda game it was nice till they didnt bring enough content to satisfy us so alota peeps left, but nice concept and spaceport interaction....
i think all dev's are thinking they can keep up with the gamer and they have enough to keep us busy, but didnt someone send them a clue by now, that peeps have to re-roll toons or build new ones just to keep playing, when they really liked playing the ones they hard to start with, but since no content or bordom from such they quit or just dont play
my 2 pennies, thx for hearing my rant, i will be able to sleep tonight now

At least 80%, the guy who put that chart together says there is about 120k players from the UK and NA combined for lineage/lineage2.Yazule wrote:wow is 50% hehe and of the rest of the games out there, i bet lineage and lineage2 are 80% asian players
Over half of WoW's players come from asia as well though according to SirBruce. Also WoW has had virtually no competition when it comes to fantasy MMO's for the last 2 years (EQ2 was supposed to be but was such a steaming pile of crap it never took off. It seems to be doing better now that they've introduced PVP servers).
Even with it's expansion coming I see WoW losing a bunch of market share in the next 2 years, it will by no means become small but there are several other big-name MMO's that will take a bunch of the bored WoW playerbase away. Also I think more people will migrate to some of the sci-fi based MMO's that are out/coming out as people are getting sick of fantasy MMO's.
If you read the analysis section of that site there is a bunch of good info on there.

Yeah, I agree with Badash. I can't see WoW holding on to the number of subscribed players they have now, especially when some pretty cool MMOs are on their way. As for as sci-fi goes, Huxley and Tabula Rasa seem pretty sweet. I'm kinda interested in the one based on the Conan the Barbarian movie (is it Age of Conan?). Apparently, they're going with a more interactive combat system instead of the "stand there and push buttons" style. Could be pretty fun, unless it's a LOTR combat system knockoff (anyone who's played the console games knows what I'm talking about).
I'm still waiting for the next "Planetside" MMO. It was fun waging war across different planets with a variety of classes, weapons and vehicules. Hopefully the previously mentioned sci-fi MMO's will do the trick.

in the end there was meridian 89... and it was not all that big... then ultima online was born (with PHX being the afterbirth)... that game was HUGE, but graphics were not up to snuff so then EQ came out and WHOMPED everyone for YEARS it was the biggest, then a bunch of stuff came out like AA, DAOC, SWG, and many others, all trying to topple the king... then WoW came out and it had 1) name recognition and 2) a good engine... it toppled eq badly. Of course other games had #1, but all of them had lacking game engines or inherent flaws in game mechanics.
Thing is WoW IS EQ IN ANOTHER FORM.... groups of elite guilds going out with 40 people for many hours to kill the big boss.... people, this IS eq with a different wrapper...
They did improve upon pvp though, and the lack of pvp in EQ is why i thought it sucked (and dont tell me about the eq pvp servers, the game was completely imbalanced for pvp so it dont matter if you put up a server, the pvp sucked).
So I understand why WoW is big, and the reason there are so many asians in WoW is because they can farm in game for a day and make as much american cash on ebay as they could in a month working in their native land.

my 20000000 cents.
hehe

I was referring to EQ2's PVP specifically, from what I read it's actually pretty well designed and balanced and you actually get to loot an item from your opponent. EQ1's PVP did suck, it was a hackjob that was tacked on so people could do something when they got sick of camping boss spawns and raiding, same thing as in WoW.Yazule wrote:in the end there was meridian 89... and it was not all that big... then ultima online was born (with PHX being the afterbirth)... that game was HUGE, but graphics were not up to snuff so then EQ came out and WHOMPED everyone for YEARS it was the biggest, then a bunch of stuff came out like AA, DAOC, SWG, and many others, all trying to topple the king... then WoW came out and it had 1) name recognition and 2) a good engine... it toppled eq badly. WoW itself has not really improved on anything that EQ did except removing the challenge and providing a great UI. It is a polished game and entertaining enough but it is ultimately a very shallow experience. That's why I believe it will start bleeding subscribers like crazy when this new expansion comes out. I read all over the place about people who are just waiting for a new MMO to come out so they can drop WoW like a rabid ebola-infected monkey. I'm betting that only 50% of WoW's current subscribers will buy the expansion when it comes out and the rest will either wait till it goes down to $15 or not pick it up at all because they've left for another game.
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: MMOGChart.com update
Interesting chart. WoW has appeal in much the same way cake has appeal to people. In my opinion, most of the above games (except EVE) do the same exact thing more or less inside the same rigid boxes, WoW just being the most sexy box. Some people like Yaz do not like being able to be unique in their class, but instead be a cookie cutter the whole lifecycle of the game. People like me enjoy raiding, seeking out gear amongst my peers, and just having the chance to get a nice piece. For example, on Mannoroth, when I was doing Stratholme, a Skullflame shield dropped, I rolled with 3 others and I won. This was hands down the best item I had ever gotten. Me, like 6 million others, enjoy this kind of game. WoW ain't going anywhere.
Now, I must agree with BadAsh that EVE has the best game out there in the MMO world. It is unique in so many respects, it almost deserves its own category. I think if more people tried it, they would love it. I still play EVE part-time (which is why it is awesome, you don't need to spend "online time" on EVE like others) I plan on playing EVE alot more in coming months

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: MMOGChart.com update
cool..I have been playing more and more as my DDO addicton wears off (and I've run out of content to do) so I'm playing a lot more than I was....got a nice amount of cash flow going now. Haven't really bothered to get into the pvp side of things much as you really need to work together with others to hit the best aspects of it. If we get a few more playing it we can actually start to pick up some speed and get some cool shit done.
