I'm doing training with my dog right now, and was actually dating my trainer after a few lessons.
You can try to ignore it, or scold with a growled "ah ah"
If you need something harsher, you can take them by the collar make a cup with your other hand, and hit them under the jaw with the cupped hand. The air in your hand is what creates a resonance within the dogs sinuses and gives them discomfort. (i'm sure any animal activist here is gong to try and jump all over this as far as animal beating is conserned) HOWEVER, it can work, and is done by world renouned professional trainers. The chick i dated had trained many world champ agility dogs, and it worked with mine.

Whatever you do, just don't get that vocal chord surgery for your dog. I knew someone that had done that to their dog. Very inhumane, the thing constantly tried to bark but wheezed instead.

Look at spidey try to cover with "the girl i dated" LIES!!!! But yeah the cupping you hand works, once the dog realizes that the "ah ah" sound is followed by a pop they stop barking with "ah ah" alone. Parents have owned dozens upon dozens of dogs and most learned to be quiet(except palmaranians, horrible spelling). Or water gun, your choice.

Hehe Neo, my dog at home is half palmaranian. And I whole heartedly agree with you, the thing barks very often. Although we trained ours enough to shut him up, he'll still mumble and growl in his corner lol

Well, The water think is the right track. I would use a misting spray bottle not a squirt gun.
