Now this is interesting. I just saw the official trailer for an upcomming Windows Vista/Xbox 360 game called Marvel Universe Online. Being published by Microsoft Games Studio and developed by... Cryptic Studios. The same people who made City of Heroes and City of Villains and had a huge lawsuit with Marvel concerning copyright infringment is now making the Marvel online game. Heh, I guess if you can't sue them for doing something cool, just hire them to do the same thing with your license. But cryptic making its own competition in the Super Hero MMO genre... just odd.
As of now, I couldn't find any info about the game other than the trailer, but I have to admit this is one of the more interesting things to happen in the game industry in awhile.

RE: Marvel Universe Online
Sounds cool! I'll have to look into that. Hopefully it won't be a CoH clone.

RE: Marvel Universe Online
bah, they couldnt design a game for pvp if they were ganked 100 times... I was entertained for about 2 months til I hit 50 and after that all downhill... this concept of a fair fully consentual fully balanced pvp world is insane... It just makes all the classes the same. Add in their concept of adding in the PVE with thePVP and the auto leveling to make everyone equal... bah again... I doubt I would buy another product by them ever again unless there was some seriously well advertised changes in their design style...
I do think a superhero mmog is a great idea, and marvel best of all... but problem is superhero's are pretty much indistrucable... making it a little silly seeming sometimes for pvp.

Well, I don't think PvP is what they have in mind for the Marvel game. It just doesn't sell as well as normal. The majority of people like to play unobstructed by griefers. And any successful bussiness knows to go where the money is. The only game I can think of that's been successful lately and PvP has been a big part has been Worl of Warcraft. The days of old NWN and UO are dead. We either evolve or we suffer. Frankly, I'd rather not suffer:).

I'd rather not evolve into a mindless point and click game anymore..........
Most people are like slinkies, they are only entertaining when you push them down stairs....
Re: RE: Marvel Universe Online
if evolving is going away from pvp, that is de-evolving... I did that when I was a child, I learned to beat computer games, it became passe' so now I like to kill other players, more risk, you dont know what they will do.Archangelus wrote:Amen, brother!Indignant wrote: The days of old NWN and UO are dead. Now don't get me wrong, I'd prefer to go against other people. It's just more interesting. But when it comes to MMORPGs it has become a game of stats and gear. Skill has taken a back seat. So for my "kill the dweeb" fix, I go to Unreal Tournament or something. Pure skill, no grinding to worry about if my new hat has the skills I need to kill a warrior.
Re: RE: Marvel Universe Online
Not entirely true. EVE-Online is a completely PVP-Centric game that is doing extremely well. The difference between it and all the games with tacked-on PVP (WoW, EQ2 and the like) is that it was designed as a PVP game from the ground up. There's room for both types of games in the genre, but there needs to be a focus of one or the other, none of this jack-of-all-trades crap that gets shoveled in front of us nonstop nowadays. Looking at a lot of the games coming out it seems that dev houses are starting to get the idea now.Indignant wrote:Well, I don't think PvP is what they have in mind for the Marvel game.
