What do you think? (new HD)

Post by Dr.Death »

Well my hard drive is making a dam grinding noise and I need to replace it. I am not looking for anything super dooper, but something that would work with my system since I see no signs of an upgrade anytime soon. I have always used Maxtor, but it seems Newegg doesn't have alot to choose from for that brand so I was wondering if anyone had any feedback on this 1. The few reviews that were posted on were pretty good and when compared to other HD of this size the spec were about the same or better. I am asking here cause I trust you guys and will take what you say and use it in making my decision. And oh ya, the price looks good to. So here it is.

I've owned 4 Deskstars in the past, and I've come to affectionately refer them as Deathstars. Every single one of them ended up doing the "death scratch" where one of the spindles sounds like a loose spring twanging around in there.

Now to be fair, this was when IBM made them. I've heard that they really have improved since Hitachi took over the drives.

But for $45, I guess it really doesn't matter, because that is one hell of a low price.

I have a Hitachi Deskstar and it's been nothing but reliable and quiet. I heard recently that it was nicknamed "Deathstar", but it hasn't given me any troubles. Over 2 years of steady performance. /shrug
