Dystopia

Post by Undead_Mercenary »

Did anyone get that Dystopia mod for Half-Life 2? I tried it out yesterday and it seems pretty cool. Kinda of a cross between Half-Life, Counter-Strike and Tron. I went through their tutorial, but it barely teaches you the basics. So I was really confused during in a live server. The mod does use objective-based maps, so it was more interesting than the normal CTF or Bomb Defuse game types. Plus there's 3 different classes (Light, Medium and Heavy) that have access to a variety of weapons and implants.

It's a free download, so I recommend checking it out if you own HL2.

I played an early beta of it, wasn't too impressed by it really, haven't tried it in a long time though.

Many Dystopia maps are imbalanced to hell and back for one side, and some maps are ridiculous in design.

Even before my PC was damaged, 0.8 Dystopia's "Real" was choppy and ran poorly at even lowest settings.

Decker is fun, but very limited. Walking on all walls is intuitive, but movement was so loose, a jump would leave you hovering around for a long while and falling off the ceiling sometimes left you falling for as long as a half minute.

It captured a sliver of the virtual world portion of Cyberpunk well, but the gritty real world is not very interesting.

There are others I'd recommend, such as:
EmpiresMod (RTS building plus FPS and Vehicle combat; hasn't updated in months)
Eternal Silence (awesome space combat equal to Freelancer or Wing Commander)
