hey. when I hit ctrl-alt-delete my comp brings up the windows task manager (DUH). when i click the processes tab it shows I have 47 processes running. is there (without you seeing what they are perhaps you can't tell me) any that I can get rid of? Windows XP Home. thanks

Since you didn't list them (you should), here are a few you should not:

svchost.exe (none of them, each one is part of Windows' organizing processes)
system
type32.exe
winlogon.exe
smss.exe
explorer.exe
ctfmon.exe

Look up the names of the processes on google (with .exe) and the first few results will describe the process.
You will get a description of any of the names on that site, if they are critical to windows, or if they are dangerous.

There are only about twenty Windows related processes on XP. I have 33, and I know ten of them are for my printer, antivirus and drawing tablet.

Check out a free program from Microsoft called Autoruns

This (among many) is a must have program.

THanks guys. I will check it out. I guess I could list them. Everytime I go to Little Mexico I get Autoruns

Follow this link and use the Power User configuration:

You could try the Bare Bones configuration and then if stuff doesn't work, you could move to the Power User config.
