Oh and on another note. If you already have HL2 and episode1 valve is going to give you vouchers to give them both away to a friend. So basically you get to gift a copy of HL2 and EP:1 to whoever you want. Which is probably a $40 value in itself.

I'm with Mid on this one. I call Bullsh*t.

I have HL2+Ep1 and they can shove their "give it as a gift" up their collective asses. This is a greedy money grab.

On the bright side, this probably means TF2 will kick ass - because if it didn't, they couldn't do this.

Atlas Shrugged.

*edit : I guess I should really read more. this was just for the beta. I thought you had to rebuy HL2 just to play TF2. Guess not. Durrrrrrr

Greedy money grab? What the fuck. I already read the edit, I'm typing this anyway.

YOU'RE GETTING EIGHTY DOLLARS OFF OF FIVE GAMES, THREE NEW ONES, TWO OLD ONES AND A BETA OF TF2.

YOU CAN PLAY TF2 RIGHT THE FUCK NOW EVEN THOUGH THE GAME ISN'T OUT FOR ANOTHER TWO WEEKS

MAKE BELIEVE THAT YOU'RE BUYING EPISODE 2 FOR $20, TF2 FOR $15 AND PORTAL FOR $10 ALL LESS THAN WHAT THEY'RE GOING FOR INDIVIDUALLY
AND THAT AN EXTRA COPY OF HL2 AND EPISODE ONE ARE GIVEN TO YOU FOR FREE

THIS IS THE MOST GRACIOUS AND GIVING DEAL IN THE KNOWN UNIVERSE

Den needs to learn to read as well. Read my edit. AND WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THE 5TH GRADE CAPS??

Again like I said. At first it looked like you had to re-purchase HL2 just to play TF2. As in, I have HL2 - but I have to buy it again - just to play TF2.

As I explained in my edit, this was a misread on my part.

You guys make me laugh....

I can definitely see why some people are upset about it, but honestly - I don't really care much about HL2, the Episodes, or Portals (but you can be damn sure I'm gonna play them....). Even if I had to pay $45 for TF2 alone, I would have freaking done it and I'd be happy about the purchase.

So, either pass on the beta and buy TF2 for $25-30 or whatever it's going to be when it's released (on top of if you want to buy HL:EP2 or Portals), or take the view that Den was trying to convey that even if you are "buying" games you already own, the prices basically make HL2 and HL2:Ep1 free.

Valve originally was going to offer the "Black Box" at $39.99 which was going to omit HL2 and HL2:Ep1. They cancelled it for who knows what reason, but regardless it means you are paying $5 more than you originally would have had to, but are getting copies of HL2 and HL2:Ep1 that you can gift to someone.

Is $5 really worth getting that pissed about?

Just my two shiny pennies.

"I already read the edit, I'm typing this anyway."

If XoR overlooks how the Orange Box deal works, I'll have to use LARGE CAPITAL LETTERS TO GRAB THE ATTENTION of others who will probably miss it.

I believe the Black Box being cut was due to a comprimise with distributor Electronic Arts putting the Orange Box on shelves, only having one instead of bothering with expected issues of shipping two seperate boxes with nearly the same stuff inside.

Is it safe to say TF2 > QW? Or are we looking at apples and oranges.

Put another way, what are some quick comparisons of the 2.

I fixed my choppyness in QW (I had dual monitor setup in the options for some godforsaken reason) and it was alot better after fixing that. A little fast for my taste, but I suck. Team Fortress on the other hand, I've played since the original OH SO MANY years ago with the quakeworld engine. 2forts4 babay!

Thoughts of the 2?

Having played both, I'll say that I'm having more fun playing TF2.

Although cartoonish in style, the graphics a really slick. If you can run Half Life 2 or CS: Source on high settings, you should have no problems with TF2.

It is an easier game to pick up and learn, as opposed to Quake Wars steep learning curve (I say steep when you compare to other FPSs). So, you're less likely to have dumb ass team mates who don't know what the hell they're doing. Plus, in-game voice chat makes life a lot easier when trying to work with your team mates.

Each class has a distinct playing style. This was sort of the case with QW, but it is much more obvious in this game. No 2 classes play the same. Good level designs, great game types (I like their different variations of "control point" game types)... I could go into more detail, but I gotta catch the bus in a minute.

The only complaint I can think of at the moment is that I wish there were other types of secondary weapons than the shot gun. I think 6 of the 9 classes of shotguns (if you include the scout). I think that needs a little more diversity. Anyways, I'm sure Den will give a more in-depth comparison.

I played the original TF on QuakeWorld, as well as TFC on the HL engine. I've played ET:QW as well, ever since Beta 2. I tried to like ET:QW, but there is no effort required for TF2.
