Canadian opinion

Post by XoR »

I'm stuck at work researching a bunch of crap, wishing I could be playing CoD4 with you guys, and I stumbled across this story here.

I ask our beloved Canadians because I'm sure you have a better idea how the local people feel about this.

This is an interesting story.

First off, he only speaks Polish, so no one has any idea what this guy is saying. Second, he trashes a computer off a desk. Ok, now he's violent and needs a helping hand with calming down. So ... what do the police do? They do what thousands of police do every single day ... they use a tazer to stop people from violently destroying property ...

Ok. Yes it is sad that he died, of course. But what's with all this "it was an execution, an embarrassment for Canada etc ..."

If I went to Canada, only spoke Mandrin, and began moving furniture, clearing computers off desks, and blabbing my foreign tongue at security and then got tazed - but DIDN'T die - I think these same people would have said "What a jackass that guy was being, good thing they tazed him."

So how is your country reporting this?

We talked about this at work today. I haven't taken the time to watch it yet, but from what I've been told, there were 4 large RCMP officers at the scene. Yeah, the guy was acting erratically because of his long wait and the difficulty in getting any help, but come on, he's unarmed. You can't tell me that 4 highly trained officers can't pin down 1 guy. On top of that, the guy was tasered like 4 fucking times!

Aren't they supposed to use pepper spray or their beat'em sticks first (when guns aren't present)? All in all, tasers are meant to take down dangerous individuals in a non-lethal way. In reality, cops seem to have some power-trip wielding these things. Tasers seem to be their first resort to the slightest hint of non-compliance. It's sick.

pepper spray could affect alot of people including the police administering it is not a good option unless you are well outdoors. most taser incidents do not end up in death, even tasered multiple times is unlikely to cause death, unfortunatley it does happpen. pepper spray has caused death as well http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_q ... _n19519646

so has rubber bullets and night sticks. it seems that police want a quick effective way to subdue a person with minimal injury or risk of injury to themselves, seems reasonable enough but if there are as you said Merc, 4 big cops then just lay on the guy and pin him down, which too has caused the death of suspects compresion of the neck and or chest causing suffocation... easy to take both sides of this one.....

I'm not arguing that they should get rid of tasers because of a death. That's just an unfortunate accident (although like I said, tasered 4 times). I just think that they're being abused. I'm sure a shot of 50,000 Volts doesn't tickle. But like you said Grudge, there are situations where they need to be used to avoid any form of injury to the cop or innocent bystanders. It just seems like in the past couple months, any time you hear about someone getting tasered, it was in situations that didn't really call for it (like the "Don't Tase Me Bro!" douche).
