LCDs

Post by Undead_Mercenary »

With Christmas coming in a month, I've been looking at asking for a new LCD monitor for my PC. Since I'm not really familiar with Widescreen LCD specs, I figured I'd ask here to find the best model to go for (within a certain price range).

Since I don't want to lose any height in my monitor, I need to get a 22" Widescreen. The first that caught my attention was this Hanns G. It's within my price range, plus it comes with a 4-port USB Hub.

The other one was this Acer. Same monitor without the USB Hub for 20$ more. I think the only difference with this one is that it has a 2500:1 Contrast Ratio.

So between the 2, which would be a better choice? Or are there better monitors out there around the same price?

HD is important as well as digital.I wouldn't bother getting anything less.

i have one of these babies http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/ ... CatId=2775 and is amazing. Have looked at it next to a screen with a higher contrast ratio and is reli hard to tell the difference, though spos it would be considering mine is 3000:1. Watch out for the response time, as some lower cost ones have a response time of 6ms, which can case jittering or shadowing (where u get a ghost picture just behind the first)

Basically splash the cash and get my monitor. I hope to be getting another one of them soon

For displays, I've heard good this about Acer these days. Back in the day, we called them "Ace in the hole" because they made really bad PC's.

Actually Z3r0 brings up a interesting point about HD. 720 HD will be fine, but 1080 HD is 1440x1080 and this monitor is 1680 x 1050 - 30 pixels short on the vertical ... not sure how that handles it.

Actually 1080HD is 1920x1080 (also 1920x1200 is used in monitors with a slighted aspect).
I have no sig.

Sorry Undead i don`t mean to get off track here but i have to disagree with Mid and Pink concerning response times.

I`m currently using this:

http://www.samsung.com/ca/products/tv/a ... ifications

max. res. 1378x768
refesh rate 60 Hertz
dynamic contrast 4000:1

The specs here don`t show the responce times but, in my manual it states 8ms. I don`t get any shadowing or jittering. I don`t know if this is due to my monitor being an HDTV or not but???

Undead i`m not sure of the price range you are looking in but i suggest this:

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/ ... CatId=2775

I hope this helps

DR

(and yes i`m a Samsung whore hehe)

That monitor uv suggested DR looks very much like the link i posted, good choice :P And it affects different people differently. The same as some people can play a game when on 20FPS, yet on the same game at the same FPS, another person will find it extremely laggy. Different people have there own in-built sort of "response time"

LoL it`s exactly the same. Guess great minds think alike after all. Serves me right for not checking.
