Computer Help Because this morning's trojan wasn't enough...

Okay, while Thowarr was home he built my computer. It was running beautifully. And then because nothing can fucking work...

The backup UPS started squaling and my computer was shut off. I check the thing and it says replace battery. I hit the circuit breaker and it resets itself and that's okay. I start the computer back up and there's this horrible sound. Additionally, the monitor won't come out of power saving mode. Great. I crack it open...the sound is coming from a sheet of plastic that somehow did not get removed when installing stuff. I think the noise was related to it flapping at the fan.

Okay, remove that and the horrible noise is gone. Great.

Now, back to that powersaving mode problem. Still a problem. I wait a bit, try again, nothing. I try plugging in the digital cable into the other output in the back of the graphics card. Nope. Okay, what about the analog cable? Nope.

I read something about starting up in safe mode and checking drivers...okay yeah well I realize the keyboard green light isn't coming on either. Nor the mouse's red light. Hard to press f8 if it won't recognize the keyboard. Okay. Great again.

I try hooking up the monitor to my laptop...nope won't power up on that either.

So I'm sitting here with this thing in front of me and no fucking idea what is wrong nor how to fix it. I can't take any more crap breaking down. I just can't. I don't know how to fix it. I don't know what to do. I am sick of this crap. Sick sick sick.

So no Conan or anything else for me until I figure out what to do here. Any suggestions? And please remember I probably have no idea wth you are talking about when you respond.

So just as type that out and contemplate harikari or the location of a tall building...I try it one more time and it comes on. What the hell...seriously. This computer is just FUCKING with me today. That's all there is to it.

My seriously uneducated guess is that the graphics card overheated because of the plastic over the fan. Once it cooled down, things worked again.

I'm not sure that explains why the monitor wouldn't speak to the laptop but that's the best I can figure. It's all still working today so...I unno.

monitor would still come on even if the videocard was over heated. It would just say no signal or something. Hopefully it wont repeat itself but just in case, keep track of where you go and what you do. Perhaps something is triggering it.

The computer's running fine right now. I haven't had any issues since. I even have ventrilo running right (thanks Mid) again.

The only issues I anticipate screwing up my AoC playtime is the fact I have to try to move to another state this summer. >< Anyone wanna help?

I think we solved the problem with the monitor because she had too many things plugged into the UPS to support it. Yes, I get to fix shit over the phone even while I'm eight thousand miles away.
