U.S. Elections
U.S. Elections
Being Canadian, the elections in the States concern me more then the elections upcoming here in Canada. We always seem to follow in the footsteps of our big brother (U.S.). Its almost like we try to mimic the American guide lines to prepare our selves to be American. Not to mention there is more coverage for your elections then ours.
So, to get to my point......Who are you voting for and why? Some of you may not want to share that kind of info but im just curious. Even if your undecided, please leave a comment. Maybe this topic will bring out some information you weren't aware of before and help you with your decision.

RE: U.S. Elections
Everybody scares me. I'm a middle of the roader and can't stand extremism on either side. My views tend to be more conservative and libertarian, but at my age (35) I get turned off by the whole thing these days. It's sad, because it's very very important.
I'm guessing Canada is really pulling for Obama.

RE: U.S. Elections
really don't like either one of them ,mccain feels like he going be another bush, and obama is going to be a heavy spender so its a hard call
RE: U.S. Elections
I'm concerned about war. McCain will keep it going and may stir up some new problems. Obama wants to focus on those responsible for 9/11. Obama would be my choice but i dont know all the facts and dont watch too much tv.
Maybe we should do a poll and see who would win just from the voters here on PHX.

RE: U.S. Elections
I've been concerned with Canada's current election. Although the Conservatives will win, I really hope they don't get a majority. Some of the things I've learned about Mr. Harper really scare me.
As for the American election, I also support Obama. Although he has voted yes on certain things I would disagree with, he's leaps and bounds better than McCain. I think McCain choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate is a good example of this lol.

What scares me is the fact that by choosing Sarah Palin he actually gained a poll lead instead of crashing and burning :S
RE: U.S. Elections
i loved palin's debate suit. and she has some really cute shoes. but former beauty queens do know how to dress...
if i had to, i'd go with obama. mccain is a terrible liar, and is worse than john kerry at flip flopping, and jitters worse than bush. obama has excellent speaking skills, but i think that can only take you so far in a stand up comedy. i just don't know, in a mojo hoho jojo load of debt, some scary times ahead? not good if canada is in the same shape.
.. PHX - Riv3r ..
obama = new PERMANENT federal organizations that will increase taxes PERMANENTLY
mccain = reforming the existing permanent organizeations to cut spending + high defense spending (probably in Afghanistan)
I go for mccain, his spending of our tax dollars is a temporary vs obama will work twoards a more socialized america
Most of the medical breakthroughs in the world come from america because it is capitalistic, a socialized medical program will put the world in a decline in medical services because it encourages status quoe. If a canadian is having a hard time getting medical attention that is needed they come to america where if you have enough cash you can get it for a price.
The only thing about Palin that is scarry is her bible slapping, other than that she has some decent opinions, esp on energy indipendance. In the end the VP is a shell of a job and no real powers at all, gore was worse tbh than palin
Obama is scary as hell to me. He talks about change but his change is bigger fed gov't. I vote for the guy that is talking about shrinking the fed not the guy that proposes expanding its powers.
winner mccain
and fyi over half of the elections I have been of age for I have voted Independant

Just to reply on Yaz's post. Keep in mind, if McCain dies (already 67, good chance) then that shell of a position that Palin holds becomes the most important job in America. So, ask yourself if you want Palin running the country and take to heart what she says in her interviews. She will declare it law that everyone goes to church.....lol, jk.

Even worse Dexie! Do Americans want an old fart running there country? We have this old guy at my work. He's been there for 27 years. I'm his boss and he is stubborn when it comes to new ideas and successful adjustments that our company has adopted. Yet my company wont get rid of him because he has been there so long. Doesnt anyone think that he is too old? At 71 he should be retired and looking for somewhere to settle down, not a busy job like running a country. There should be some concern there.
