I managed to snag a key too! I was waiting on installing it until my new PC arrived. UPS says it should be here today, so maybe I'll be on tonight or tomorrow.

Re: Section 8 beta
The guys i game with on a regular basis were not impressed with this game. However, i do enjoy it. So if you guys want to play and you see me in vent, just give me a shout.

Re: Section 8 beta
I have my system reloaded and I am installing the games.... hope to be back up to speed this weekend. This game was a little rough but it was like a mix of BF2142, Halo and Tribes. Which I liked all three. I will be putting it back on for as long as it is in beta.

Re: Section 8 beta
PC arrived a day late and I've spent some time reconfiguring it.
Also, I've been distracted by the Champion's Online beta. I'll try to download Section 8 when I get the chance.

Re: Section 8 beta
I'm downloading the beta as I type this, I played the 360 version first but as Console FPS controls suck I thought I'd give it a try on here and see how it is.

I have it installed too, but I have to admit.... I haven't "actually" played it. IDO has....
Re: Section 8 beta
Section 8 has a bunch of great ideas and those ideas are put together very well, but in the end, the shooting is mostly average.
They nailed the dropship spawning method when it comes to the map, though the Dynamic Missions are a real crapshoot because of it. There's no shortage of things to do and it is real easy for squads to stick together, bunkering down and fortifying bases is a much better choice than the Battlefield-style "ring around the rosie" flag cycling.
Getting around is great - the high speed dash is awesome for getting to the action (or getting away from it) and the jets are just enough to climb structures but not have moon jumpers.
The weapons are simple and necessary - no multiples of one type, deploy with any two. The ability to pierce shields at close range is twofold good - less of a battle of attrition circle-jerking that other huge health shooters have, and the denial of long range harassment.
The secondary equipment... well, most of them are useless. Almost everybody should be carrying a wrench. The Sensor is great, grenades are a waste of time, the knife has a shorter reach than the distance you can even get close to an enemy. Haven't tried those Detpacks, yet, they'd probably do well with taking out AA.
The passive abilities, one or two points in any of them won't make much of a difference, but various combinations can create vast variations of armor/damage/repair/speed/lockon.
The Auto aim idea is swell in its implementation, but even maximizing all of the Lock-on abilities really won't compare to a guy who just invests in damage and armor.
Deployable stations are substantial in their effect and they can take a good beating, a well-funded setup can defend a large area but no "cheap" indoor bottlenecking allowed. The power suits are retard strong - they make for good deterrence, base defense, and their slow speed levels out the heavy armor. Buncha targets to put that rocket launcher to use.
Section 8 is going to be in the shadows of bigger titles.
