So Turbine just announced that they are going to be introducing a similar free to play method to the one they introduced in DDO, which seems to be working out well for them so far.
I've got a lifetime sub still and I play regularily so if anyone wants to pick it up as a casual game I'll be up for helping you out.
Their not planning on going f2p till the fall so not something to worry about right away.
LOTRO Going Free To Play
Re: LOTRO Going Free To Play
It's great that the free-2-play model is finally catching on, most who are trying it out are being prudent with the whole micro-transaction thing.
No super powered players buying things demanding everyone else buy stuff to keep up.
I'd jump back on to my lifetime LOTRO account if a bunch of us got together again, though the game's pace isn't really my thing.

Also, there are several other free to play online games in the near future that appear to have more than grinding and waiting for something to happen in mind.
Company of Heroes Online, a lobby version of the retail RTS with persistent player growth.
An action combat tomb-crawling MMORPG based on The Mummy movies.
A third Star Wars action MMO based in the Clone Wars era (using the Clone Wars Cartoon graphics) to go with the Empire era and Old Republic era MMOs. It's shown to be simpler but appears to have ground combat, pod racing and starship shooting.

Re: LOTRO Going Free To Play
Free is a good thing. On another note, cooler and I have been playing some Guild wars. If any of you see us in vent you can join our party!!

Re: LOTRO Going Free To Play
I'm still trying to track down my guildwars keys but if I find them I might give the game a try again. Haven't played since launch really though.
Oh and Den they changed the xp curve in the game awhile back so it is easier to level from 1-50 now, which speeds things up significantly. If you were to log in now you would probably find that all your characters have instantly gained 2-4 levels.
Also I am still keeping the kin active so we still have a level 10 kin if people decide to come back to the game though the kin house is gone due to it being too expensive to keep running, but it would be simple to get back up and running should we get people interested again.

Re: LOTRO Going Free To Play
My son has been after me to play this again after he learned one of my coworkers plays. I might pick it back up so I we can play together - though my gaming time is so limited anymore.
