Planetside 2

Post by DenKirson »

The sequel to the persistent three-sided huge scale shooter that we played a bunch just opened its doors for beta sign-ups. The beta itself may still be a while away, though.

When you're taking a break from swinging lightsabers, you should try shooting some conventional weapons... in spaaaaaace... on the ground!

The final product is going to be a free-to-play (with cosmetic cash shop) model, so you can jump in and drop out at any time without any harm to your wallets or sense of obligation.

Each April issue of PC Gamer (officially on shelves February 28) will have a unique Beta Key for the closed Planetside 2 beta, 100% ensuring you will get in alongside the long-time Planetside veterans.

Oh, also an article about PS2, too.

With that kind of promotion, the PS2 beta starting within the next few months is a high possibility.

I would love to looks to be a great time! I would really like to come and play Star Wars, but wife's not working and really don't have the time that is needed for an MMO

Though the start of the Planetside 2 Beta has still yet to be set, all SOE accounts with any Planetside game time (subscribed) on it are getting 30 days of free play time for "Planetside Day", July 1.

Also if you hadn't noticed late last year, they had a 45 day free pass given to all players that would activate the next time you played, so that's there too for a potential 75 consecutive days of free Planetside.

What had become a ghost town that could barely occupy a single base, Planetside was bustling enough last night to have several sizable fights on multiple continents. That should continue for at least the next month.

A staggering amount of people have signed up for the beta. The Planetside 2 beta will be split up into a bunch of brief stages, prioritizing who gets in first.
Veteran Planetside players and those who got a key from PC Gamer get in first.
Those who got keys through contests, from E3 or some other means are second.
Those who simply signed up for the beta on the Planetside 2 website are third.

While most of the E3 Theater Presentation will appear familiar to PS1 players, the Certification system shown at the 4:25 mark has been dramatically enhanced.

And here was the live beta show during the three days of E3. Each is about an hour or two of gameplay limited to the area around a base and a few outposts on one continent.

Day 2
Day 3
