Server

Post by ViCoDin »

Guys,

I'm starting to get real irratated with eof server. No admins are ever on, and you can say what you want... but PB does nothing, and I know of a few that cheat for a fact... bc, dynamo, for starters.

And nothing ever gets done about it. NOTHING. They run wild. I know it's impossible to get all the idiots that cheat, but lets not kid ourselves... eof is starting to suck the fat one. They NEVER get ANYONE. And then the other day, they booted everyone 2 and 3 times for the pb not updating.... and it's our f'ing fault that their server or pb is f u c k e d? That was just rude, and assinine. I hate jerks like that...

If you have noticed, I haven't been playin on that server as much. On Quakeshit server, they at least have admins on all the time, even if some are total asses... but still, they have stats and everything... and good players to compete against. So...

What I'm trying to say is... if eof don't shape up, or the fag cheatin don't get fixed somehow, I might just go full time to coding and designing... I play this game to clear the crude outta my head... but I might as well go play spades or sumthin... :shocked!:

Anyhow... said my peace...

John Lennon said life is what happens when we're busy making other plans.

- or maybe -

PunkBuster happens to have no plans and that's just life.

Help coming soon (I hope)……

Post by I.D.O. »

Arch and I have always had a nice and very capable server but we had questionable bandwidth (i.e. it sucked). We do have a generous acquaintance and guild member that has offered his extra bandwidth for our server. Only one condition came with that generous offer and that was the server needed to be a rack-mount. Ours was a standard pedestal server. So we ordered and just received our new rack-mount case. I am swapping out the hardware and will be verifying that everything works great. We probably not install it in Chicago until around the 22nd. Can you say ROAD TRIP!!!! The best I can say is hold on….help is coming.

Please let me know if you have any questions!!!

If you're interested in setting up a server, checkout www.all-city.com

The company I work for has used them alot and we are very pleased.

You can definately run a server from your house. As anyone will tell you however, the achilles heel of EVERYTHING is the net connection. Hardware for the server is the cheap and easy part.

Personally, I build everything from scratch, piece by piece. Not only can it cut costs, but it allows for more flexibility, particularily in the drive arrays. A premade server can be strangely expensive (due to software licences) and support. Just look at the DELL poweredges, the price is high.

As far as your choice of OS, Linux is tough to beat, but I have been running .Net 2003 for a couple of months now and my opinion has forever changed regarding Microsoft software for an enterprise.

Personally, HP UX 11i was my favorite OS ever. Until now. .Net server at first glance just seems like its Win2K server. But once the guts get explored, this is one hell of an OS. Best of all, you can get RC1 of .Net Server for free! just 12 bucks shipping.

The server should be put in place on the evening of November 22nd!! We hopefully will have everything running that night. We may see if any of you are on and have you test your connections.

Count on me being online after 7:30 PM Central! I hope to help put it through a full test.

Are we all going to have RCON access? (hint hint)

Let me see.......

Post by I.D.O. »

The current plan is (and is subject to change) yes at least some members. I created a web interface for RCON access. It will allow changing of settings to be easier and remove the risk of someone accidentally typing in the RCON password or variation of the password. I will try and have the web page up on the 22nd as well. If we see a lot of abuse or complaints we may need to rethink it.

Makes sense to me. To be honest I think I only know one or two commands anyway LOL! I see it more as a "prevent problems" type thing.

BC and Dynamo?

Post by TREV »

Um...bc and dynamo don't cheat dude. they just really good. and with the PB thing, if you're too stupid not to update it then that's your own damn fault, not EOF's. And as for never doing anything about people, that's kind of your job. If you don't like someones attitude or them dissing a clan you're suppose to email the admins about it. Admins can't be on 24/7 when there is only 2 of'em.
