Can you please reconsider the shotgun nerfs?

Hello, I'm a long time player of Soldier of Fortune II, and within the last month I've started playing on PHX server as a second primary. I usually play as -=TN=-Nailer in the server, for any of you that know me. I'd like to say that my opinions DO NOT reflect those of -=TN=-, and only reflect my own opinions.

Let me start off by saying that as a shotgun user, I'm not too happy with these changes. I have never crouch leaned, and my main problem with the changes overall is the damage reduction and whatever else has been done to make shotty weaker (not sure if the spread has been altered or delay of shots or what)

I would really like to see the shotgun back from it's original form, with crouch leaning fixed (if possible). As it is now, it's become much more difficult to kill with this gun than previously. I don't believe the OSP mod should have any right to greatly alter a gun like this if it wishes to be used in competitions such as CAL, OGL, STF and others. Well, unless the shotgun alterations are disabled at least.

The shotgun does take skill to use - it's not simply another "noob weapon." Shotgun is strong both short and medium range if used correctly, don't get me wrong. In medium range, it can be countered easily by almost anyone wielding a AK74 or m4, what seem like the two most popular guns. In close range, however, it involves both timing, accuracy, and psychology (you'll have to stretch that last one a tad =) ) You need to plan where the enemy is going to shoot, and respond accordingly. If they're aiming down, jump, if the're aiming high, duck and slide. With enough practice and skill, the shotgun can become extremely deadly close range. A lot of players simply can't compete with some of the better shotgun players, and right now that's seeming to me why they want to see it remain in it's weakened state.

Let me just say that I'll play on PHX server reguardless whether or not shotgun is fixed (by fixed I mean brought back to normal), but without the shotgun it makes the game a lot less enjoyable for me, which is why I've posted this. This post is not a flame, merely a plea =) . As I've stated, I couldn't care less about crouch leaning, I would just like to see the shotgun back in it's original form.

agreed nailer... the shotty has become utterly useless with the new osp. however, i do not see us (PHX) going back to the old osp.. simply because we have gotten crouch leaned and exploited one too many times, and with the new osp it brings great enjoyment and pleasure to blast someone crouch leaning! however, i do agree that the new osp has made the shotty useless.. which kinda sucks.. i know how ya feel as i have learned how to use the old shotty well and could take out quite a few opponents with it.. only time will tell if the new osp will be fixed as far as damage and range for the m590 go..

Can't players just adapt to the crouch leaners though? I mean, don't aim at the face, aim at the girth when someone crouch leans.

if people do that, and if admins instaboot anyone they catch doing it, it should be pretty effective..

Thanks for visiting the server and the boards... always good to see a -=TN=-. I agree the shottie sucks now. I wish they would have just left the shottie alone and corrected the crouch lean bug. My recommendation is to do what many have and post on the OSP forums that you don't like the change. I will say that I have enjoyed playing our last couple matches because we didn't have a bunch of crouch leaners running around in the open. I try to use my primary weapon for all engagments and it does work well except when I come up against an autoshottie at close range..... I'm waiting to see what will happen with OSP 3H.....

People shouldn't have to adapt to an exploitable bug in the game.

And who cares if the shotgun sucks? It sucks to everyone equally, friend and foe alike.

I just wish this was a Raven 1.04 patch instead of Smoothie's solution.

You know, shotty is a secondary weapon. Ppl got so used to using it like a main weapon that now that its been crap-a-fied, they throw a tantrum. Like IDO, just use your main weapon more often. Just imagine its RD without the super powered guns.

I'd like to add that the other day, when it was just be TtD and Poo on the Server, we had a shotty fight. It was fine. In fact I saw no difference really, except that it doesn't spray as much.

This is so you actually have to aim, like a real gun, you know what that is. Before you could face 45 degrees in the wrong direction and hit someone. It made you look really tough. But this update just sorts the men from the boys. It only works if you use it correctly.

Originally people were thinking they were wonderful when in fact they needed spray to stay in the game. I admit it is more difficult to use, but if you aim it correctly it's fine. I'm sure Time and Poo will agree that it seemed fine.

haha i think that comment is a little overboard... but for real, admittedly the new shotty is the same for everyone and whatnot... but in all honestly, i just had a much better time with the old shotty.. that s all

My favorite weapon used to be the sgottie also...but I have moved on to other weapons. Who cares if the shottie is useless. If you are a good player after a few matches you can learn any other weapon. If I have to give up my shottie to fix those $%^# crouch-leaners, then it is worth it in my book!!!


If you are a true shot gun lover just adapt yourself to the new settings.

oh boy that can HAD to be opened didn't TREV?...well anyways as far as getting used to the C/L exploit and aiming for the body.. what good is that when they are aiming for your head? how can you adjust by aiming for something less vulnerable then they are aiming for.. it is a sucky situation that more and more ppl were bcoming aware of and instead of just NOT doing it they had to, well, EXPLOIT it. I , being the noob that I am, used the shotgun almost exclusively (and most likely to my own detriment but what are ya gonna do) Now I am tryin the AK and the M4 but most my kills (and suicides) are the result of the damned, cursed nades.From what I gathered from previous posts and such is that, correct me if I am wrong, we cannot use the OSP fix for the crouch lean and have the shotgun the way it was. it is part of the new OSP. (right?) Well now that I cleared everything up for everyone and there will be no more bitching about the Shotgun or the New OSP or who said what and wah wah wah and We can all go out and grab a frosty pint of your favorite brew. See it's all clear to you now isn't it? hehe

Hey folks, I just wanna say that I understand the shotgun issue with the PHX server and respect whatever settings you have. I think the people who may have problems are those who play in competitive leagues. In order to stay sharp you like to practice as close to real match scenarios as possible.

I know, there is no FF either, which is totally cool. I can deal with FF being off, as an admin on Nachos, it eliminates tons of problems. But for those who play competitively, I can understand their concern. The TN guys like coming to PHX as a backup server cause you guys are totally cool, ARCH and IDO run a nice server and their is plenty of cool regualars.

If you don't see some of us TN folks out there, its not personal, being in CAL, STA, OGL leauges, they are justing trying to stay sharp....

You'll still see me trying to kill DH, Rayden and the rest of you....
