RE: MP3
Depends on what you want. If you only want a couple songs here and there, just get s P2P program like Kazaa, iMesh or Limewire.
But if you want full albums, it's a little trickier to find. PM if you wanna know how.

RE: MP3

RE: MP3
I wasn't joking, PJ.
I'm not completely against downloading mp3s, but it all depends on the circumstances. The fact is file sharing does indeed hurt artists. Yeah, maybe not Metallica and all the other big names that have been openly hostile to Napster, et al. Not only that, but the small, independtly-owned record shop will most likely go the way of the dodo since there's no way they compete with file sharing, let alone Best Buy, Walmart & co.
Sorry for the rant, this is just something I'm passionate about and I think there are often misconceptions that it "doesn't hurt anyone."
Post script: Why the heck would you want to dl rap in the first place, man?

RE: MP3
My networking teacher had come up with an idea to maybe help alleviate the file sharing problems. He suggested that ISP's put a tax on your connection to ensure artists would get payed (sort of like the radio paying artists everytime they play on of their songs). I forget most of the details he had come up with, but it sounded like a fairly good idea. I'm sure there would be difficulties involved, but basically it would be the best way of 1) Ensuring artists get money from people downloading their music and 2) People don't have to go to the store and buy a 20$ CD that only has a couple of good songs on it.

RE: MP3
that is a good idea...But right now its called "file sharing" not downloading music.... So maybe it will be like a "file sharing" taxes or somthing....anyway the government can get a 1$ they will get it.... Wait does the gov own the internet?

RE: MP3
Any moral judgement of right or wrong is up to the artist really. I mean, to most musicians, the most important thing is for the fans to hear their music. If I produced this killer song and say to myself .. "I want people to pay me to hear this", maybe I'm not really a "musician" after all.
Making music is like painting a picture. If I have a canvas of a stunning oil painting with a black shroud over it, and I say "NO, you have to pay me 2 dollars to look at it" people would look at you as if you were insane.
Who owns music? If I buy $100,000 worth of guitars, drums, synths, studio space, recording equipment, does that give me the right to summon these sounds to my ownership and make you part with money to hear the summoned sounds? Am I paying for people's so called "talent" to arrange waveforms in a certain way?
I guess I am under the opinion that art should be viewed/heard freely, and let fans support artists they like if they choose.
I am probably a minority within this viewpoint.
