BF2 1.03

Post by DenKirson »

If you haven't looked under EA's rock, you shall now see that the 1.03 patch was released yesterday, and surely has made the experience a bajillion (Den Math: Bajillion=5) times better.

Tanks and APCs no longer stall out when stopping and going up inclines, and jeeps certainly have more traction allowing for better ramp jumping.

FAVORITES TAB. Also, there's a feature I haven't seen in any other browser, a "last visited" tab, for those servers you randomly joined and really liked but forgot to mark or copy the IP.

Reserve Slots for owned servers.

Clanners can now add a prefix to their name, but not change it, so if you already have PHX in front of your name, this'll be kind of pointless unless you wanna see "PHX PHX-Dood".

My kinda fave. In a multi-passenger vehicle (like the trans-chopper), all passengers must exit the vehicle in order to assist in capturing a flag. One person may stay inside and capture as to stop enemies from running up and swiping the vehicle.

My least fave. An AT missile to the wheels of a helicopter is no longer a one-shot kill.
-Compensation for my least fave. All lock-on missiles in both air and on ground are far more efficent at killing enemy aircraft.

Team Balance no longer moves over the leaders. Members and Unassigned are still moved over at first death.

Point farming has been slowed down by disallowing successive assists on the same guy for a period of time. Something like you can heal a guy ten times in thirty-two seconds, but you only get a point for the first heal and the heal after thirty seconds... maybe. Might be a minute.

Whole fuckton of bugfixes, Commanders no longer have to fear idiot allies who don't get out of the way of artillery. As well, a lot of things have been changed with the way TKs are accrued.

Vehicle-pedestrian collision has been well-refined. A soldier can stand on and ride a slow-moving tank without being knocked away from more than a 3MPH speed. Getting clipped by a vehicle at full speed is still deadly.

Oh yeah, if you have about two thousand ranked points, expect to be able to unlock two or three more weapons after an hour of play when the server realizes you have a lot more points in the new rank levels. I've got a G3-Jackhammer-PKM-M95 now.

Get shooting.

I played last night with a bunch of ppl from Shacknews and all I can say is first impressions of the patch are not good.....

-Commander TKs were still occurring.
-Lag seemed worse for everyone involved (and there weren't more ppl than usual on their server)
-Squelching flyboys didn't happen. They're still as dangerous as ever and the Stingers still don't hit crap.

Wake Island was fun though.....

I didn't forget. Spec Ops are poop heads.

-The TKs still happen. The commander is no longer faulted for it.
-Lag is Shacknews' problem.
-You're doing it wrong.

-The commander was still getting punished as far as we were seeing
-Maybe, but the server was fine with the same amount of ppl before the patch
-Apparently everybody on the server was then......

-People are saying different things. Either "no punish wtf", "punish but no point loss wtf", "no punish or point loss wtf".
I don't know anymore. And I can't test it on AI to be certain because they move out of the way.
I believe it is no more -2 to teamwork, but punish is still on for artillery. Or both, or whatever.

-Several other 64 servers are all fine after the patch.

-Apparently. I was in their base, killing their plane-dudes like nothing before.

You must know the Way of the Missile. Here's a stupid chart thing on shooting planes from anti-air positions.
Could be off a bit, AI and other players are not very cooperative when it comes to flying.

As for helicopters now, they don't stand a chance as long as they aren't going Straight.
Hitting the base of the blade rotors is kind of shaky when shooting across.

Got the patch yesterday from a lab in the college (woot, 400kb speed!) and luckily my friend has a 256 MB USB Flash Drive. Maybe I'll get a chance to play it today if my connection doesn't go down for another 3 days...
