When did Motorola start gaming sponsorship?

Post by Starscream »

The new CS: Source models are in and noticed that the Leet Terrorist model seems to have been sponsored by Motorola. Soon there will be BF2 and modern first person shooter maps that will have many billboards with Burger King and Toyota on it and the models will be wearing actual modern designs that are used in fashion or modern combat. Like Nike swish on the shirts. If they did start sponsoring games... would that advertising money help drive down the cost of gaming or the monthly cost of playing MMO's? Would you rather pay more to keep advertising out totally as most games do?

I have been selling cellular phones for almost 4 years and sold for every company in Canada. Leet Terrorist seems to be sporting HS820 Bluetooth Headset and the RAZR phone.

I played with those new models yesterday, and now that you mention it, those pieces of equipment do look a lot like Motorola products. I hate to see more advertising invade our favorite games (I still bitch when I see TV commercials before a movie at the theatre). However, if they actually did reduce game prices, even MMO monthly fees... I'm not sure I see anything wrong :)

The fatter my wallet, the better.

Personally i have no problem with the advertising as long as it goes along with the game, now if that razr was hot pink i would object because it would mess up the outfit. As for billboards in BF, that wouldn't be too bad because that is somewhere else to hide so i can snipe. And if any of you play it on xbox you better fear my sniping skills when you jump in that chopper, thats my favorite target.

I don't have a problem with ingame advertising as long as it is not intrusive, those details you noticed about the cell phone and ear-piece I think actually add to the game rather than detract from it, because it brings a bit more realism into the game and advertises a product subtly, without it being shoved in your face. The one thing for me is that the ads absolutely HAVE to fit in within the game. For example having ads for nike in a futuristic game like EVE just wouldn't fly with me but having them in a game like splinter cell or something set in the present is fine. The best way for them to do it though would be like they did with the new CS model, make it recognizable but don't out and out advertise it.

Yes, graphics have come a long way but to get the (M) logo of Motorola in there would be too difficult so they are just emulating it. The headset is more like Sony Ericsson or Nokia than the Motorola one but that phone is dead ringer (pun intended) for the RAZR.

Neo-Lobo: You don't want a pink RAZR? What if they made a camoflague one to match your belt, boots and ammo purse...er pouch?

BadAsh: Yes, having a McDonalds billboard sign in 1944 Europe in COD2 would just not be realistic.

This is my 100 post! I shall have a Tim Hortons treat in this honour. (Canuck's will understand where I'm talking about. Dunkin' Donuts of Canada.)
