Does anyone have the discs for Half-Life 2 GoTY Edition?

I got a CD key for Halflife 2 Game of the Year Edition from a buddy at work. Seems he had the whole thing but the discs got smashed in a recent move and he just gave me the key. Thing is, when I go to register it I'm told I still need to insert the discs even though I have the game downloaded from Steam. If anyone has the first disc to this game, could I get you to do me a favor and activate the game on my account using my key and your disc? This is like being in a desert and you can't get the lid off the cantine.

if the guy already activated it on his own steam account you will not be able to activate it on yours, you will need to use his steam account to play the game. If you do that you shouldn't need the original discs.

Yeah, he hadn't activated it yet so that's my problem. Seems he had it just sitting around and never got around to installing it, go fig.
