cpu trouble

Post by z3r07w0 »

here are my specs:

intel celeron 2.4 ghz
1 gig of ram
nvidia 6600gt agp
not sure the type of motherboard but its a 478 socket.
it only has 2 ram ports and the fan is working on the chip.

my card wont run any other drivers except for default which came with the card. I returned the card thinking that it was defective but im having the same issue with the current card.

im experiencing alot of lag. I cant play bf2 when their is more then 20 ppl on the server. It gets supper choppy. My settings are as low as they can go. I do experience lag with cod2 but its not as bad.

It could be that the motherboard is over heating, im not sure. As for the video card, its temp gauge never gos over 42c.

Ive been told by others that it could be the motherboard and that i should upgrade it but im wondering if there is a program out there that can check for possible issues with my pc.

Im not running alot of processes and my anti-virus program is one of the best.Provided by my isp. Maybe its my bandwidth, there should be a program to check that aswell.

Any help here would be great because im not in the position to purchase another cpu or mobo upgrade just yet.Thx guys.

I've never been a fan of Celerons. If I had to give a suggestion, I would say getting a new processor is a good idea.

Just some ideas you may or may not have tried :

- reinstall DX9c runtime (the august one)

- make sure your chipset drivers are installed (motherboard drivers) just goto the manufacturer's web site under support and download for your MB

- soundcard drivers

- Try CUSTOM under windows update and check the hardware tab for updates

- At last try the new 93.71 drivers from Nvidia released 2 days ago

Are all games like this? or is it just BF2?

Just get a new mobo, your due for a new one any way lol. They have some mobo/cpu combos for real cheap. Just make sure that it is agp and will fit your type of ram. I bet you can find one on the net for less than 250, besides Christmas is just around the corner. Say Santa came early this year.

Oh and another reason is that your old mobo probably doesn't support all the new features that are included with your 6600.

yeah, i just did some research and found that my mobo(Gigabyte GA-85650 GXM) is only a agp 4x and my video card is 8x. I think i should get a new mobo.

Just be aware that you'll be re-installing windows from scratch again. Windows doesn't play nice with different motherboards when swapping them on existing installations. It's possible, but brew 2 pots of coffee if you're going to try. Might as well wait until you can get more than just a new MB.

Check out AMD64's like the FX55 and 4400+ X2's ... <$300 US with a motherboard, they are practically giving them away now. Or just get a core2 duo+MB for a little more. Praise goes to intel! :D

That's actually a pretty good outfit for 599 Canadian. You might not want to mix and match your old RAM with DDR2 though, just my 2 bits ... at the very least it will drop down to your older RAM's speed. Best to get 2 gigs of DDR2, you won't regret it.

The graphic card could use a boost, say a 256MB X1900GT for only $199 US or the new 256MB X1900XT

Cheers Bro
