Picked this up today and have played it for about 3 hours.
Highly recommended.
Here's a IGN review of the game.
BioShock
RE: BioShock
Liked the demo... but it was a demo of the action, not a demo of the game. Nothing about modifying or inventing weapons/items/plasmids. Without a taste of that, the game appeared nothing more than a generic wrench-whacker game. And there's also the linearity in terms of loaction, not just in the demo, but also reported in the full game, that once you progress, you usually can't go back.
I'd intended to get it off Steam, but then I heard of Securom's newest fucked up anti-legit-buyer-DRM, existant even in Steam. I never will have any StarForce on my new computer, and I'm only slightly less aversive to Securom. Unlike other scenarios like this, I'm not hearing any "it worked fine for me" along with the horror stories. In place of the "it's fine" is "You can install more than twice, as long as you do a complete uninstall that contacts SecuRom online to get back that unique install key".
I'm not going to buy BioShock PC until there's a way to avoid SecuRom.
Is a man not entitled to play the game he purchased?
No, says the man at Securom. It belongs to the publishers.
No, says the man at 2K. It belongs to the producers.
No, says the man at Microsoft. Parts of it belong to the Live Marketplace.

RE: BioShock
I played the demo on Monday night. It ran surprisingly well on my system despite how high I had the graphics cranked. Overall, an awesome game that I'd seriously consider picking up if it had some good multiplayer.
Guess I'll have to wait for CoD4 in November, which I hope you guys are picking up.

I picked it up for my fancy schmancy new laptop. Unfortunately my fancy schmancy new laptop has some driver issues so I haven't had much chance to play it yet. I'll let everyone know what I think when I get a chance to play some more.
RE: BioShock
We got the PC and Xbox versions. Usually I do better playing FPS on the computer but I've actually made more progress on Xbox. I think part of the enjoyment of Xbox is the fact the stuff loads much faster than it does on my poor old PC.
In any case, at first it was just about too damned creepy for me to sink my teeth into. Or maybe I just wasn't ready to play. But once I started on the Xbox I couldn't put it down.
I love how the splicers sing church songs just before they come try to own your face.

I've been playing the Xbox version. I beat it once now and I'm playing it through again.
Really freakin awesomeness.
Great storyline, lots of fun to play.
