This just killed the COD series. Unless they have something new to add with the IW.net they are using for support. For sure there will be no 30+ servers anymore. Mass multiplayer has moved to another game. Guess BF3 will be our next great game cause Infinity Ward just screwed us!

As someone who lives in 64 man servers in most FPS's, this is a major kicker for me. May be trying out a different game first on my new computer.
Time stops for no-one. Why should I?

I agree... I was pre-ordering one and planning on purchasing 2 more copies for the kids. Now I probably won't purchase one.

My son plays COD4 on his console and his PC. He enjoys it much more on the PC but many of his friends play on the 360 so that is where he plays most often. I tell them they are losers... :P :P :P

Yep. I was all geared up for MW2. This actually may change my mind on the purchase.

Maybe I will get Borderlands instead...

They just smashed my world. I was so geared up for MW2 and now they have just shat on all of the pc community. Do they not think the fact that 95% of pc gamers are against this maybe its a bad idea!?!? The whole reason why pc gaming exists is because of the added options the community brings.

Only like 3 days ago I was playing halo on xbox with some friends and I was saying how I will always enjoy pc more as you can choose where you play, find good servers with communities of people you get on with which I really enjoy. And now this!!

This coupled with the reduction of breaking edge games so that they can still play on consoles. I mean the last game to push systems was Crysis, and that came out f'ing 2 years ago!!

So much rage. I will not be buying this game.

They don't care about having dedicated servers because they plan on making ppl pay for extra shit. We will probably be paying for slots too. Just so you can play with ppl you don't know and lag all over the place. You think they would have released a beta version for pc users to test the link to IW.net but of coarse that would require additional work. In the end, we are wasting our time with this petition. They know that all they need to do is get this started. Then they will collect money from those that play it on a monthly basis........sounds like world of warcraft. If you remeber, i don't play games i have to pay monthly for. So ill be moving onto another FPS game. I already canceled my pre-order.

I doubt you will have to pay monthly for the service. However I find it very likely that this is done to enable them to charge pc gamers for downloadable content

I can't believe what I am reading. This is literally the most deviant decision I have seen in a long time from a game company.

I mean what, did Jim Jones take over as dev lead and make everyone drink the Kool Aid? They HAVE to be somewhat empathetic to gamers and how this must look from the outside looking in.

I'm willing to give this a chance, but all I can say is their new matchmaking model better be freaking awesome.

I was so looking forward to this game. Now it's all skepticism. Damn!

This is an idea i posted on the Infinity ward site.

This will not make modding and new maps available. The main concern for me is lag.

I have been playing Operation flashpoint 2. It runs in the same manor as IW.net. It is very laggy and your at the mercy of the host. If they decide to leave the game ends. I may have an idea that will give us dedicated servers.

Have a server company host a private server for your clan. This way the slots are just for the 15 ppl you want on your server. Why only 15? because the host will be set up as a ghost in spec so you only have 15 slots available to use. All that would be needed is a way to control the host server remotely. Such as a rcon tool. If that was possible then you now have a server using IW.net. Its 24/7 and totally under your control.

Possible issues:

Does this infringe on activision licence agreement?
Will having a host infact eliminate lag?
Will server companies purchase and run the game for only a minimum fee?
How do you advertise your host server without a browser?
Who will write the rcon program and how long would it take?

If IW.net runs like operation flashpoint (we dont really know as of yet) and this option is possible for us then why not?

I believe, if you have a cod 4 server you could advertise your host server and password for MW2. That way, those you play with will be on the MW2 server as well. You could also use xfire to share usernames to connect to in MW2.

If you have any ideas to offer or you feel this wouldnt work at all please post.

My idea is that is way to much hassle in order to fund a company producing a game designed to fuck the end user over.

It sucks what piracy is doing to PC games... this is actually only the beginning. Sure it sucks that dedicated servers and customizations are lost, but they need to do something to lock out piracy and that is to ship with a key that has a one time use to create an account (basically like an MMO). I have talked to two other studios that have games that will be doing the very same thing on the PC.

Sure it sounds bad but without measures like this the PC platform will be dumped for big games and will be the home of MMOs and casual web games only.
I have no sig.
