No no no no... Lets get this straight... First of, the division leader status will be taken care of.
Second I said SWG was not a good game untill I played it. Once I played it I realized the full volume of it and explained it to you over Vent. Toad... Trust me you would really like this...
And If anyone gets the game soon you won't be too far behind because I have almost mastered a two handed sword in one day. If you work at it you could easily catch up (So toad its not like you have to start a game all over again)
In my opinion this game is a mix of Diablo, Final Fantasy, Planetside, and Star wars all in one.
Oh and as far as having to know anything about starwars. I only saw one of the movies and I can understand this game like anything else. Even more than Planetside actually... It doesn't have to have anything to do with SW if you don't want it to and If you don't want it to you will get no less game value.
Hop on vent for a better explanition.

Well the thing is you never played Planetside hardcore like many of us have.
I only said SWG sucked because for 1 I wasn't playing it and for 2 I didn't wanna see any more people go off to the darkside.
But I'm tellign you I've played both and planetside is a great game but when you hit the maximum of what you want to do, there is nothing left. SWG has so many more possibilities. I'm just offereing to save you guys a few time of your pointless lives...

Ok....i'm gonna pipe in here.
I disagree with both Yaz and Zarn on the use of FPS in a persistent world game and the statement that there will never be a successful FPS-RPG.
Here are my thoughts....
1) PlanetSide isn't the game to do it. It was a nice (and expensive) experiment for both SOE and its subscribers, but the issue is, what is the goal? If I can NEVER achieve an end goal, or at least some acheivements for me, then what's the point.
2) A successful FPS-RPG has to be an FPS exactly.... Sony gave us a pseudo FPS, with dialed down twitch play. It affects those that are used to twitch play and have an advantage in their twitch skills. Don't punish those people. Reward them for those skills.
3) Reward vs. Difficulty need to be balanced. Based upon my #2 - why not have bonuses for achieving higher levels. I mean real bonuses. Let me access better weapons, do things faster, etc....I know that it was the goal with PlanetSide that as I went up in levels, I got points to acquire skills or occasionally an implant. The issue lies in though that if you have a level 20 person and a level 5 person using the same weapon and armor - there is 0 benefit. The level 20 person has no advantage (yes, yes...I know that the level 20 person could have acquired implants that may have provided some advantage, but the point still stands). Characters should improve through levels and rewards should be scaled based upon it. (give a level 5 player huge exp for killing a level 20 player, and in a converse situation, give the level 20 person fewer points when killing the level 5 player.
Anyways....I could rant more and actually I have an idea for an MMOFPS game that I think could work, but I don't develop so it'll go the way of the dodo....
Short and sweet: There will eventually be a successful MMOFPS game, but PlanetSide isn't it.

The only persistant twitch game I could see being successfull would be a twitch mmorpg, with all the depth and detail of an mmorpg, and I would not call it a mmofps, just the next gen mmorpg. SWG could be twitch and the crafters could still NOT do pvp or pve if they wanted... would not be that hard to do. Keep everything the same in swg as it is except for the combat engine and you would have a very successful twitch persistant world imo...
I think the goal in Planetside is to "just to take territory and have fun doing it." Meaning that everyone is equal in ability for doing any role or job the are currently doing, and therefore, won't cry out "noob" or get upset because they can't get kills or whatever.
If you focus on taking territory, the game is much better than if you fight for xp only. But it is still very flat. I think it's meant to be a simple game with a simple goal (conquer territory) to entertain a group of friends. Meaning: Planetside gets old real fast.
*anybody want to buy my Planetside copy and 2.5 months of access from me???
