Well, we were wondering what the bandwidth capabilities of the PHX pipe is. BF2 is approx 30-35kbs per client for a smooth ride on broadband. So for a 24 slotter we're almost 1 mb/s Tx. And considering the CoD server is also sucking up precious bits, we just didn't know if that would put sad faces on the powers that be.

I guess the question is this : Can PHX support an additional 1 mb/s Tx? Or is it cheaper to upgrade your provider to a new plan than to outright rent a server?

I'm sure there are advantages to renting, however, single disadvantage - cost. I'm sure if you bring that to the table and find out how many can donate, cost might be very reasonable. Cheaper than WoW perhaps. :)

Hell, once the mods start going, I'll probably be playing Batallion, Wild West and Point of Existence more than anything.

Well, I honestly don't know if it can handle it or not. The server can, and the bandwidth is there, but the real question is impact on our provider. I'm sure he'd let us know right away if we start hogging the pipe. My thought was just that we'd do that and if there was an issue, look for alternatives.

We've never asked or required ppl to put up money before for a multitude of reasons, and as much as I can help, I'd like to keep it that way. Just don't want to get into the "I put money in and he didn't so I should get 'x', while he shouldn't get anything" or something to that effect. Perhaps I worry too much, but I just try to play it safe.

I gave you a quarter for some gum, now I demand a turkey dinner. With lots of gravy.

We could always just bug the hell out of the Grumpy Bastards server.

Is this game going to be a serious PHX division game or is it just another game? I had a lot of fun playing CoD with you guys and will go grab this baby tomorrow if there is a lot of clan interest. The single reason I haven't picked it up yet is because when I check the site it only shows 2-3 people in vent max.. maybe I'm just looking at the wrong time.

And if this will be a division game I have no problem with donating some cashola for our current provider or renting one or whatever.
I have no sig.

I will see what I can do to expedite the BF2 server. Just as an FYI the reason that we don’t already have BF2 running is the server OS is to old to support some of the libraries needed for the game. Arch and I are working on picking a date in the near future to reload the server. We also need to make sure that it is a night that there are no CoD matches/scrims. Arch and I will keep you updated.
